Vegetable Soup

Ok, I have a question that is going to soundy nutty, but I am serious:  I've asked every great cook in my family this question and I've yet to get an answer.  Curiousity has the best of me.  Why, when you heat up a can of vegetable soup, do only the peas float?  All of the rest of the veggies sink, only the peas float.
I've always wondered this and would really like to finally know the asnwer.
Thanks!

I suppose it's because the peas are lighter? I never really thought about it before.

I’ve heard the phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” more times than I care to count. But being the science nerd I am, I won’t believe it until I see it—the scientific evidence, that is.
