3 Slimming morning meals

One big diet resolution mistake I see over and over is what I call the “new  year vow of purity,” a solemn pledge to pay penance for any eating and drinking sins committed over the holidays by subsisting on nothing but carrot sticks and wheat grass juice. A much more sustainable approach: Eating four 400-calorie meals a day, with a healthy monounsaturated fat at each. Need more encouragement? A recent Yale study found that by following this eating plan, you could lose 33% belly fat (including the deadly internal kind), 8.4 pounds and 1.6 inches from your waist in one month.

Click here for more details about the breakthrough research or to meet the Flat Belly Dieters, but in the meantime, here are 3 of my favorite quick (and cheap) healthy breakfast ideas studies show that breakfast eaters are more likely to be at a healthy weight than breakfast skippers.

Banana Split Oatmeal
Cook 1/2 c dry old-fashioned oats with water (to desired consistency) and top with 1/4 c microwave frozen strawberries, 1/4 c sliced banana 1 Tbsp semisweet chocolate chips, and 2 tbsp almonds (total calories=359)  (Here are 25 fast, healthy, slimming meal ideas)

Vanilla Fruit-and-Nut Parfait

Mix 11/2 cup whole grain puffed cereal with 6 oz fat-free vanilla yogurt, 1c blueberries, and 2 tbsp almonds (total calories=354) (Slim down with 200 all-new recipes from the Flat Belly Diet Cookbook – Free trial!)

Apple Pie Smoothie
Blend 1/2 cup fat-free or soy milk; 6 oz fat-free vanilla yogurt; 1 tsp apple pie spice; I medium apple, peeled, cored, and chopped; 2 tbsp cashew butter; and a handful of ice. Transfer to a glass and eat with a spoon (total calories=390)

I love yogurt with Musli. It's delicious and fast. Horizon (organic brand of dairy products) sells a small tub of vanilla yogurt I use which makes it extra good. You should try it.

I lost 50 pounds through the tried and true method of diet (smaller portions, eating lots of veggies, no chips!) and exercise (circuit training with a personal trainer). Switched to plain oatmeal for breakfast - hated it at first but eventually got used to cutting out the excess sugar and sauces. Makes a big difference in the end! Now I love the way I feel and I look much better too!

I feel I will try harumi approach without the personal trainer of course but instead add walking and see what happens. How long did it take to lose the fifty pounds and when did you do your eating?

I agree with the lemon and water. But everyone, yogurt is loaded with sugar. How can you drop weight when you are loading up on sugar first thing in the morning. Eat something like oatmeal or cheerios without sugar. This is just my opinion and I do not eat sugar anyway.

Hmm. The "Virtually No Protein for Breakfast Diet?" Now that is a real advice from a nutritionist. How do people get paid for this nonsense?

Yes yogurt CAN contain sugar....Flavored yougurt. Plain yogurt not really. Just read labels. Sugar in the morning is the best time as you have the entire day to work it off and for the "no protein for breakfast..." comment....again, read labels. Yougurt, nuts, soy, and oatmeal all have some protein. Together they will meet an egg or better. Look for items that may have more umph....Kashi has a line of oatmeal that is very good and packed with good Fiber and Protein...Fiber and protein are the best ways to fill you up and help the body burn more calories as well as keep your digestion normal. Other things to note about these recipes...Calcium, potassium, antioxidents, and omega's are all packed in because of the combo of dairy, berries, fruit and nuts.

The basics of nutrion will always work..Lean protein, whole-grain fiber and nuts, fruits, veggies, low-fat calcium products and you will do well.

I went from a size 16 to a size 6 in 2.5 years with JUST diet. Yes excercise..moving is important...I am just not the best at that part.

More lean protein, more good fiber, watch my fat, and as a woman...more calcium. (get the suggestion for your age and sex of how much per day and make the effort) Eating 4-6 smaller portions was key for me.

    Small Breakfast

    Snack

    Small Lunch

    Snack

    Small Dinner

    Dessert/Snack

I still have 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee and I still eat out at some place that is horribly fattening from time to time....I just eat 1/2 or less and only what I REALY love and then have leftovers the next day and eat less overall that day as well.
