I've gathered up some of my favorite healthy living posts from the last few days for you. That way, you can ready up and then move on to your barbecue leftovers and an afternoon run to keep up that 5K momentum.
1. Did you know that the kind of salt you use -- kosher, table, or sea -- determines how much you should use to season your food? The Skinny Chef shakes it up with these smart tips on salting your dishes.
2. Ready to join in a well-deserved body image rant? Our friend Kelly at Fitness Fixation picked up some trashy magazines at the hair salon last week and then went off on her blog about what she found on the pages. She knows you've seen all the crazy, starvation diet, skin-and-bones stuff before, just as she has. But this time, Kelly gets annoyed, then really ticked, then yells on screen, then feels better. Join in her rant.
3. Are your running socks helping or hurting your workout? If your heels are riddled with blisters or the toes of your socks are worn thin, it is probably time to invest in a pair of socks made specifically for runners. The crew at That's Fit says these top socks picks will do your feet and your run lots of good.
4. How unhealthy are your favorite female athletes? Jezebel's post on retired figure skater Jennifer Kirk, who is speaking out about her own eating disorder and the "sport's lack of openness and willingness to confront the issue", made me wonder how much we're cheering on unhealthy competition and training when we're watching the ice on Saturday afternoons.
5. How much P is in your OOL? I cringed to read that 17% of Americans admit they urinate in public pools. I also cringed to think how much that statistic would soar if the survey included all the toddlers at my neighborhood pool. Does this stat make you ponder the places you and your kids splash around? How clean do you think your park pool is? And when was the last time you really cleaned out the inflatable pool in your backyard?
