How stars like Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel stay fit and
look fabulous
Yes, celebrities pay personal trainers and
private chefs thousands of dollars to whip them into shape, but
there are some terrific lessons that we can learn from their
routines – without paying a penny.
Jessica Biel used to
follow every fad diet that came along. But now the secret to her
weight management is to eat
three small meals and
three snacks a day to help her stay satisfied. She favors lean
chicken, salmon or pork with a salad and
brown rice or whole wheat noodles. “You have to
find a balance, especially with what you eat,’’ Jason Walsh,
Jennifer’s trainer,” has said. “She eats what she likes, but in
smaller portions. She likes to have dinner out, but will only eat
half of the food on the plate.’’
Jennifer Aniston
exercises every other day. She has developed a routine with her
yoga instructor, Mandy Ingber, which starts with 22 minutes of
cardio to warm up her muscles before an hour-long
session of
yoga. The yoga session includes
postures as varied as the one-arm balance, push-ups and pelvic
tilts. Each move consists of 2 sets of 8 to 10 reps. Jennifer loves
the workout. “Yoga has meant my legs got leaner,” she has said. “My
arms got stronger.’’

Angelina
Jolie is back to her usual healthy eating habits after a
work-related crash diet. Recently she went on a 21-day “detox” plan
in order to lose 20 pounds fast for her upcoming movie
Salt. She plays a woman CIA assassin who is forced to
disguise herself as a man, and Angelina wanted to lose her curves.
Since then, though, she’s resumed eating favorites like steamed
beef, which is high in protein. She increases her
good-fat intake by having
salmon
and tuna. And she never touches sugary foods.
Jennifer Garner doesn’t
have a lot of time for an exercise routine, so she turned to
personal trainer Valerie Waters for help. And just two month after
giving birth to her second daughter, Seraphina, last January,
Jennifer looked stunning. How did she do it? A 30- to 45-minute
high energy workout session with a product called
Valslide, created by Valerie. Valslide is a
shoe-shaped piece of plastic and non-skid foam, placed under each
foot, to help you slide your legs back and forth or side to side,
with no difficulty. But don’t let the ease fool you. ‘’You
immediately feel the results after using it for the first time,’’
says Jennifer. “It’s deceptively simple and incredibly effective.’’
The Valslide is especially good for toning buttocks, inner thighs
and stomach.
Rihanna stays slim by
following a consistent diet. For breakfast she may have an egg and
cheese sandwich with orange juice. She’ll also have a
soy
protein drink and will often snack on a low-carb breakfast
bar. For lunch, she enjoys a sandwich --chicken, turkey, roast beef
or ham-- on whole-grain bread, topped with oil and vinegar or
mayonnaise with a side salad topped with 2 tablespoons of low-fat
salad dressing. Dinner is usually 3 ounces of roasted chicken, ½
cup of pasta salad, 1 cup
sliced tomatoes and 1
cup of skim milk. Her eating plan allows her to have some carbs,
without overdoing it. "I like carbs,’’ she has said. ‘’But, at
the end of the day,
carbs are the
enemy.’’

Jessica Alba comes
from a family that is heavily overweight, so in order to stay
healthy and slim, the actress began cooking for herself at the age
of 12. These days her diet consists of an
egg-white omelet
and fruit, or cottage cheese and a peach for breakfast, a
salad for lunch and vegetables with chicken or fish for dinner. She
doesn’t eat desserts or bread, but will treat herself to a
chocolate or strawberry frozen yogurt. Jessica tries to work out
every day for an hour. She starts on the treadmill or elliptical
machine for 10 to 15 minutes and then does four sets of 50 lunges
and crunches. “When I work out, I have energy and feel good about
myself,’’ she has said.
Heidi Klum is 35 years
old with four children and she still looks stunning. What’s the
supermodel’s secret? She’s learned to eat small, healthy meals
every three hours. Her meals are
high in protein,
which keeps her energy level up. After giving birth to her son
Johan in late 2006, Heidi was back to her pre-pregnancy weight in
six weeks, and she plans to do the same this year following the
birth of daughter Lou Sulola October 9. How? By focusing on her
long-time habit of moderate eating. “I’ve never done diets,” she
said earlier this year. “But I also do not sit on the couch with my
feet up and eat one potato chip bag after the next and one burger
after the other.”
