Especially when it comes to eating right, when a proper portion is the only thing that stands between a "treat" and a "binge." But portion control products usually feel like (tiny) prisons for my favorite foods... Who wants to eat ice cream out of a thimble?
So I surprised myself when, a week after receiving a portion-focused bowl in the mail, I was still using it to pour my AM cereal! I pulled a Cristin Dillon this morning and took a pic of my breakfast to prove it: Precisely one cup of Kashi's newest cereal, Heart to Heart Warm Cinnamon Oat Cereal:
The Measure Up Bowl is a super-subtle way to stop myself from going overboard on cereal which is, in my opinion, the purpose of getting out of bed in the morning (as a growing pre-teen I one time ate six bowls of Cheerios in one sitting!). So, I can track calories without any middle-man measuring cups or an obnoxious "hello, I'm on a diet" dish. I've only used it for cereal so far, but I imagine it would also be useful for pasta, ice cream and other good-in-moderation foods.
You can order the bowl here, but it's back ordered for now (guess I'm not the only one seduced by its subtle, slimming powers), so be sure to bookmark the site and check back!

Report AbuseI try to measure my food, but I have been thinking about getting a portion control plate... yeah it's kinda gimmicky, but I am not disciplined enough to portion things out on my own.

Report AbuseBUy a kids sectioned plate. fill up the largest section with viggies and use the small sections for the pasta and meats. It is a lot cheaper. I see this bowl is $20, i think I will measure my food in my measuring cup then pour it in a regular bowl, works just fine.

Report AbuseI got into the habit of measuring foods about 2 years ago and have maintained a 10 pound weight loss. The reality of portions was sad at first, but I changed my diet in the process, so I can eat more of the things I love.
Part of that change meant giving up cereal altogether. A one cup serving of cereal just makes me angry, so I don't bother. And, as cheat meal, I'd rather spulrge on low glycemic 'pasta' or a pizza, than half a box of cereal. I don't miss it or the little tube of fat that used to live just under my belly button. :)

Report AbuseYou can also wash and re-use your lean cuisine plates. They are perfectly portioned for protein, veggies, and fruit (or starch).

Report AbuseA good tip I have is, I use my kids forks and spoons. That way I dont take huge bites and it takes me longer to eat which equals me getting fuller =)

Report AbuseYou can also use only a salad plate for dinner. Helps your portions appear bigger and no room to overfill your plate. I do this without really thinking about it because I know after measuring my correct portions are not going to be much more than a salad plate. Unless I am actually having a salad ironically. If you dont add a bunch of cheese and croutons and creamy dressing you can make a really large yummy salad.

Report AbuseIt could even be more than just that. You could have a little scrumble of smoked fish mixed in likewise portion and have for yourself the diet for the day.
