Appreciation of the little things.

I am set to move from MN in a little over a month, back to a big metro area city. And, my heart is breaking and my stomach in knots. For 3 years, I have been able to let my kids play outside, without worry of someone snatching them. I have left my doors unlocked when I leave or even at night. I have no neighbors for miles, and if anyone was to break in, I could hear them for miles from the gravel roads. when I am out and about, I drive by local farmers and give the old one finger farmer wave. Everyone knows everyone here and if they know you are in need, they rally around and offer a helping hand. Life here is good, peaceful, and I feel like we are in a protective bubble, where nothing can hurt us. Bottom line, I feel safe and very at ease here. We don't have but 3 places to get groceries and other essentials. And the restaurants are minimal. But, if it is something we really need, it is a weekend trip to South Dakota, which is about 90 minutes from home. But, we know that when we are there, we can eat sushi, BBQ, Italian, pretty much anything we want. And we love it and appreciate it, because we can't get it in our little rural neck of the woods. Since living here, we appreciate things like that and are grateful. My worry is, moving back to a place that has everything I could ever need at my disposal everyday, will we lose our appreciation that we have grown into living here. will my kids keep it, or will they start taking those things for granted? Will I? So, these "little things" I will try to keep apart of me as we move on and away from this lifestyle. In just a short while, I won't be able to let my kids play outside with me out there watching like a hawk. I won't even dream of leaving my doors unlocked, any time of the day or night. No waving at anyone because I will probably never see the same person again or pass anyone I actually know. So in closing, since living here, I have learned to appreciate the little things. And I just pray that I don't ever take things for granted again. I hope I can take what i have learned from here, take it with me, and keep it with me always.

I understand, when my daughter was a toddler, we would go shopping and someone would say how pretty she was, and she would open her arms for a hug. It was a constant worry and a watch. She was the perfect child to be snatched. It is not easy mom, she is now 35 with children of her own and the understanding of how easy it is. So keep watching those children!

the 20th is urassismine2 Birthday, swing by if you can to wish him a HAPPY-thanks, craftyladyinor.
