Bob's insider look at The Biggest Loser kitchen

Bob Harper, fitness trainer at The Biggest Loser, shows you where the contestants cook and gives you insight on how the contestants eat to lose Watch Bob and get the scoop on what foods are always on hand at the show:

Below are tips from The Biggest Loser experts on how to get in shape and kick-start your diet.

1. They advocate 4 hours of resistance training per week. Do cardio as extra credit. The more cardio you do on top of your resistance training, the faster you will lose weight.

2. Eat a carb- and protein-rich snack after your workout. Some good choices include: a bagel with a slice of reduced-fat cheese; a fruit smoothie made with nonfat yogurt; or nuts and an apple.

3. You can reduce the appearance of cellulite by losing weight and building muscle. Squats and lunges are good exercises to help you tone your legs and tighten your butt and thighs.

4. If you want fully developed arms, work your biceps and your triceps. Many exercisers pay too much attention to their biceps, since these tend to be 'show muscles,' but your biceps are less than half your arm.

    Hey Cocoapops,

Don't be yelling at the Biggest Loser people for their show and how they treat the people on it. The people that Jill and Bob are yelling at are there for the reason of losing weight. They knew what they were getting themselves into. These people are trying to improve their lives and their health.

You sound very angry and bitter. I, too, am very overweigt. I need to lose at least 100 pounds. I have heard some of the jeers from people as I walk down the street. I know how much it hurts. But, I also know that those hurtfull words they speak are true. I do need to lose weight. I am disabled due to health issues that make it very difficult to exercise. I have trouble walking and I am allergic to the chlorine in the YMCA's pool. Pool therapy is great. To go into the pool and feel so weightless is a wonderful feeling.

The people that yell hurtful things at us were not brought up properly.

I was always taught that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. They were probably brought up in a home that didn't care what was said...they probably learned this behavior from their fathers.

I would love to be on Biggest Loser, but I doubt that they would take me. There are too many issues with my body. I have thought about gastric bypass surgery. The psychiatrist put the kabosh on my bypass surgery. He stated that because I am compulsive that I wouldn't be a good candidate for gastric by-pass surgery. Then I had some problem with the fool staying in my stomach for too long and I ended up in the hospital for a week while they tried to figur out what was wrong with me. I just needed to eat less fiberous foods for awhile. I have been thinking about the surgery again.

You are angry about they way people talk to you about your weight. But is your behavior any different from what you said in your post? You said some pretty nasty things. Please know that the whole world is not against you.

When I see people that are much heavier than I am, I say, "Oh My God!!".

Then I quickly ask God to help them. After seeing a program that showed what the inside of the body looks like for obese people. It was so scary. The fat goes up from the stomach and it goes up into the lung area, putting pressure on the lungs so the lungs have to work harder. The body fat also grows around the heart making it harder for the heart to work. Fat also gets into the liver and makes it more difficult for the Liver to process and get the blood filtered. Now I remember, The biggest Loser did this for each person that started this season. It was very scary.

I read both of your comments and I for one have never teased a person who has more meat on their bodies. I was a bean pole and now that I'm in my thirties my weight fluctuates between 128-134. Please believe me when I say I'm not boasting because I'm not. I walked to and from everywhere when I was growing up. I now sound like my parents when I say I walked through rain, sleet, and snow just to get to and from school and I did. I walked to and from everywhere when I was in college. Now that I'm in the real world and now have a disability from a car accident, I can't do all that walking I use to. Teasing people is very immature. I, too, got talked about and teased a lot because I was literally a stick. In this world it doesn't matter if you have too much meat on your bones or if you don't have enough. People will talk about you no matter what. The reason why they do is because they, too, get humiliated but they try to take the attention off themselves in order to avoid the tormenting. They have bad self esteem issues and don't want anyone to know. So if someone teases the both of you just remember they're off a lot worse than you. It may sound stupid but it's the truth.

    Cocoapops,

It sounds like you don't love yourself. It sounds like you are in a lot of pain. If the people on the Biggest Loser get laughed at, it's the people who do the laughing that have the problem. So many people are unhealthily overweight and live in a dreamworld of comfort foods and denial. I was one of them.

Jillian does yell at her contenstants very harshly. You know why? She may only have ONE WEEK to undo decades of damage. She may only have ONE WEEK to break these people of their suicidal habits, and she needs to shake them, break them down, shock them. If they get voted off after only one week and she was able to break them down before they leave, then she just gave them a new clean slate to rebuild their lives on when they go home.

Just an example, if you only had one week to pound away at a cement shell that was entrapping a person and killing them, you would not take a tiny chisel and gently, soothingly scrape away at the cement mold. You would take a giant sludge hammer and give it all you've got an break down the cement encasing as quickly as you can. You must save the person inside.

Here is the thing... If you are supposed to be one of the best in the field of helping people lose weight ... you suck

to yell and cuss at them is wrong in many ways.. i understand why you do it but it this is a television show with kids that are watching and your mouth needs a good oil change. Bobby knight does the same for his kids.. he is a warrior and he blows out kids that can not make the grade

his behavior works but not a proud moment and your techniques are the same .. shame on you for not coming up with a workable program.

i would start cussing at you but you are not worth the time..

shape up for the new season ...
