Can being overweight help you live longer?

We've been so conditioned to fear being overweight that any good news about carrying a few extra pounds seems suspect at best. But here you go: A new study out last week suggests that being overweight may help you live longer. This doesn't mean obese, just slightly pudgy--a body mass index of 25 to 29.9.

For those of us who love to eat, this is good news. Of course, it doesn't mean stuffing yourself full of doughnuts every day (although there's nothing wrong, in my opinion, with the occasional doughnutfest). It just means being able to truly enjoy a wide variety of foods without slavishly worrying about calories.

Surprise! These 10 foods are actually healthy to eat.

But what I'm really looking forward to are all the diet books extolling the healthful virtues of packing on the pounds. Now that I can't wait to see.

BULL-S**t being overwieght is BAD! Showing a slice of bacon and saying it's healthy is CRAZY!! You need to watch what you eat and exercize. You may think your fine because you run around a bit, but BACON and HAM are FAT. It will catch up to you! They can clog your heart and cause many other bad heath problems. This ad is horribly misleading. Whole foods that are natural, and lean meats are the way to go.

Oh come ON people... it's saying being a LITTLE overweight isn't bad for you. In fact, I think I read a few years ago that it's ok to have twenty five extra pounds in case you get sick or whatever.

This isn't an excuse for anything. People shouldn't need an excuse NOT to be stick thin. People should be able to be whatever weight they are without having to justify themselves. I don't know how they got to their weight, you don't know how they got to their weight, so why should ANYONE be judge and jury over someone else simply because of what they look like?

BALANCE is the key to EVERYTHING..too much of ANYTHING is not good for you..Just because hollywood has stick, sickly looking women categorized as 'sexy', doesnt mean they are healthy either..

you also have to take family genes into consideration..what you do with that is up to you, but dont expect EVERYONE to achieve YOUR (OR HOLLYWOOD'S) expectations of how we should all look..

ok, well i think as long as you eat "healthy" and exercise, then eventually those extra pounds will melt away. losing weight can cut your risks of cardiovascular disease in 1/2 as well as other overweight-related illnesses.

people wanting to live longer should a diet of 70% live foods (fruits & vegetables), and 30% dead foods (grains, meat, etc.)

this is the ultimate way to living your best and feeling the most "alive" and disease-free. =)

I am overweight according to BMI, but I don't feel I look it. (I'm 138lbs. and 5' tall.) I do have a bigger butt and I know I could slim up a bit in my thighs, but I still have my muscular calves and small waist. People can be the same weight and height but look much different. Also, muscle weighs more than fat. Aside from having a sweet tooth, I avoid fried and battered foods when possible and cook at home a lot! Gotta love my George Foreman grill and oven!

I am relieved to know that my weight is not a horrible thing and I think people who are afraid to eat strawberries because they have carbs or don't treat themselves to a slice of cheesecake every once in awhile need to live a little.

Long live not looking like a zombie!!!!

I think that the balance is key and moderation is key. Too much of anything is bad for you. Being a little overweight may not be bad...being too overweight is. The concept that everyone needs to keep in mind is being healthy at whatever weight or BMI you are.
