Can people be bribed into rehab?

Addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky publicly spoke out about Lindsay Lohan's apparent substance abuse problems, the pop star fired back saying she thought doctors were supposed to talk to patients about their issues behind closed doors. What's that? A personal invite? That's right, Dr. Drew and the producers of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" have reached out to Linds and offered her six figures to appear on the program.

"I'm really convinced that something horrible is going to have to happen to her before she really gets over it and embraces sobriety," says Pinsky. "She needs to give it up. And it's going to be a while before she does. I have this image that she's going to lose a limb or something before she does."

We're grateful that Dr. Drew has extended a hand--perhaps the promise of big bucks and a reality TV appearance will finally entice Lohan to kick her bad habits. Lately her publicist has been denying any drug or alcohol use, and implying her shrinking size and random illnesses are the result of stress and exhaustion. It's possible, but we really believe Drew in that there's more going on here. She's been in rehab several times before, but maybe cleaning up publicly would inspire her to really get well and get her career back on track. Lindsay, we know you have it in you!

Thanks, Dr. Drew! We hope the deal works out. Maybe you should hit up Amy Winehouse, Courtney Love and Pete Doherty next.

Do you think money and publicity could convince a resistant person to go to rehab? [NY Post][HitDanBack]

I don't think it will work. Money and fame isn't enough to face the rigors of rehab. If her heart's not in it, and only doing it for money, it will be temporary at best. Quitting drug and alcohol abuse takes a lot out of you. Let's face it, this girl tried to quit before, and why should we believe that just because she gets offered six figures she's going to do any better. It's only a publicity stunt. Get over it.

Can't we bribe another country to take her? I think she would like Somalia. Maybe she could find herself a nice pirate.

It won't work. She has to admit to herself that she has a problem and want to live a different life for HERSELF and no other reason.

I agree, you cant make someone change unless they want to. Being in Hollywood and all the money that she has, unfortunately she hasnt appreciated what has been given to her. She will hit rock bottom just like any normal person with an addiction ....its just not time for her,sad to say it may never happen.

BIG ADVERTISING REVENUES DUE TO LARGE VIEWERSHIP CREATE AN APPETITE FOR THE ABBERATION OF ADDICTS AND ALCHOHOLICS ATTEMPTING TO REHABILITATE PUBLICLY. WITHOUT PRIVACY THE RESULT IS A FREAK SHOW IN WHICH THE FAMOUS GET STONED BY THEIR CRITICS AND EACH OTHER. ALL THE WHILE DR. DREW GREEDILY LINES HIS POCKETS. IT IS NO PLACE FOR A PERSON SERIOUS ABOUT SOLVING THEIR PROBLEMS.
