Can Twitter help you lose weight?

Watch Me Lose Weight with Twitter & the 6WBMO!

[Ed. note: I know a lot of people are Twitter fanatics while others of us hear the word "Twitter" and say, "Huh?" For the head-scratchers, Twitter is a way to keep your friends, family and colleagues connected to what you are doing (and I mean everything, if you so choose) through mobile phone, Facebook and PDA updates. The Twitter blog here explains it all. This great post shows how one woman is using Twitter for health and not just to tell her girlfriends what she's watching on TV!]

Are you already on the Twitter bandwagon? I signed up a few months ago, used it a little and was thinking yesterday about how I could use it to stay accountable - to lose weight and get fit!

See, I started using a weight loss support forum back in 2004 and I know all too well how important accountability is for me - especially when it comes to exercise.

I recently went on a vacation and while it was fun, I got a little bit out of my normal routine. After being home for a week I saw that I had to take serious action and ramp up my health and fitness goals - when June arrives I want to look back at what I've accomplished instead of regretting not taking serious action.

So, for the next 6 weeks I'll be using Twitter to keep myself accountable on my healthy eating and exercise plan of choice - The 6-Week Body Makeover. By knowing that I'm accountable and I've really gone and put myself out there, this will be especially helpful when I come upon those tough times when I don't feel all that motivated. I also hope to help motivate others by sharing exactly what I do to keep myself on track during those difficult times - hey, I feel like if I can do this, anyone can.

Haven't heard of Twitter yet or want to learn more about my goals for this process? Continue reading for all the details....Watch Me Lose Weight with Twitter & the 6WBMO!

Hi, just want to say a big thank you to the Yahoo! Shine editor who put in her note at the beginning of my article about how I'm using Twitter. You've given me a personal boost in my accountability (hey, now I've got to follow through!) so I'll definitely be seeing progress in my weight loss and fitness goals.

Besides my personal goals though, my hope is that someone else will follow along with me and tell themself that "if she can lose weight, so can I!", because I definitely have my moments when I don't want to stick with it....and I Twitter about those moments as they happen, while still staying the course. Yep, this real-time accountability is really helping.

    Thanks again! :)

Hi Alexandra, thanks for the tweet, I appreciate it! :)

BTW, here's an update - I did lose 4lbs since last week. I started using Twitter to stay accountable a week ago, last Tuesday. So, it's definitely helping me stay on track with my clean eating and regular exercise.
