I'm not typically one to buy into the alarmist notion that EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH WILL KILL YOU; it usually reeks of "Anchorman" style local news hyperbole. But this story from the New York Times this week really gave me pause.
Apparently there are some types of granite that give off far more radiation and radon gas than is recommended. How much? Well, one measurement, according to the article, is several hundred "picocuries per liter" greater than is considered safe. I admit that my knowledge of this topic is severely limited, but reading this was enough to make me want to get my counters tested.
Anyone know if this is legit? Or just more unnecessary freaking out?
