Class reunion countdown: I admit it, I want to look hot

I got the first email about my 20th year high school class reunion on the same day that I saw that this website, Hot By BlogHer, launched. Coincidence? I think not.

Let me explain. Hot By BlogHer is a group of women bloggers who are banding together online before they meet up in person at our annual conference this summer. They will be supporting each other in their efforts to get fit and look fabulous before  we all ermerge from behind our laptops and iPhones and Suburu Outbacks at preschool drop-off.

I love this new site and applaud their teamwork. They have a goal, great energy, and plenty of snarkiness to get smokin' hot (in whatever way that means for each of them) by the time the conference begins.

So how is this project related to my reunion? My reunion is actually more than a year away, and the email I received was a call to help get the plans going for it. But my first thought was a flash of the horrid red Sally Jesse Raphael glasses I wore back then (I shudder just to admit that) and then to the teeny tiny size-6 purple suede miniskirt that was way too big for me back then. The glasses are (thank you, contacts) long gone but the miniskirt still hangs somewhere in my closet, more of a momento than a torture device.

After the flash of how different I looked by then, I thought of that new site. And I wondered what I might like to do in the year ahead to get super hot by my 20th reunion.

I'm not worried about losing weight, but I would like to tone up. And I won't be wearing that purple suede miniskirt, but I would like to look amazing in a simple, sexy little black dress.

I don't want to freak out about my reunion. But I also want to be as honest, just like those bloggers who will be working out until we meet up in July. I want to feel like I look hot when I am reunited with my classmates. That is, if they recognize me without the short skirt and giant glasses.

I think I will be reading this fabulous fitness blog while I get my own hotness goals in gear. And what about you?

What would you like to do to feel fabulous when you walk in to your next class reunion? Do you feel like you need to make a change in your lifestyle, work out, lose weight, or do something else so you feel hot, not bothered by the way you look?

Maybe sign up for and train for some type of marathon? Then you can get toned up, feeling great from all that wonderful energy and adrenaline boost of your accomplishment, and the reunion is secondary. By the time you finish w/the marathon, you'll already be fit and toned, and you will have done it for a marathon, not because you were freaking out about a reunion! :)

Ok. the marathon thing is interesting and a little dramatic. Last summer I went to mine. I actually wrote an article about it. Get in shape because you want to . Not for them. Your accomplishments alone should be enough, but I too succumbed to the pressure. I was cool, then when I started shopping for the actual dress, I felt all hot, sweaty and nervous. I got so angry. None of us look the way we used to. I do work out on a regular basis for me. So that is the way I would handle it. But be happy and yeah rock that dress!!!

    LOL - re: being dramatic, I didn't mean like a 50 mile one! ;)

I grew up in northern Ohio, now I live in California, everytime I go home for a visit I try to look fabulous. My 20 yr reunion is still about 10 years away, but when I go home it feels like a reunion because I only go every two years. Which I guess is good because it keeps me in shape =0)

Ya, I agree a marathon is a bit much, a 5k, 10k or a mini triathlon(1/2mile swim, 12 mile bike, 5K run) is more realistic and they can be fun if you run it with a partner.

My 40 year reunion is next June 2010. I most certainly am not the "THE O Word" My pic is acceptable to me, I just really want tostand out like school. Why bother going, you were right it was a 13 chapters of my life, which I loved. I had a lot of good friends in school and have not been to 1 because I have had a couple of different mistakes, oh I meant names. I graduated with 3 different degrees in Nursing and teach for 3 accredited schools online. Yes, I am proud and I want to be there to enjoy my friends sucess' I joined this group to help me or give me direction I can possibly use.

My 35th reunion is in June. Over the last 3 years I have put on 35 lbs!! (Quit smoking, started eating!!) anyway, yeah I'm panicking. Unlike the comment above about "why bother?" I bother because high school was one of the greatest parts of my life! My friends and I still "bother" because we love each other and want to spend time together. No, I have no desire to visit my 1st job! hate you hate it but do something else and let us talk. anyway, i've started to eat better, and cut the sugar out, and even if I don't lose the weight, my friends threatened to hang me if I didn't go. so I am going!

I will be going to a 50-year reunion next fall. I didn't graduate with these people, but grew up with them. I reconnected about 10 years ago and discovered that I had more in common with this group than with my graduating class. Many of those with whom I graduated are still stuck in the 50's, while the friends from my childhood have matured and moved on.

I will be heading off to my 50-year reunion a year from this May 2010, I think that the last reunion that I went to was 1995. I now live in Central America and plan on visiting family and friends of long past, but not forgotton years. I will also be introducing my spouse and three of my 6 grandchildren for the first time. This also will be my last trip back the the good old U.S.A. Trip of my life.

I am going to my 25reunion in May and I am looking forward to it. Missed My 10th because I was pregnant with my only child. I won't miss this one for the world.I am already losing weight for my dress. Cut out sugar and white flour from my diet and the pounds are coming off. This is the class of '84 and we love each other very much
