The answer is a good, solid maybe. On the plus side, there are plenty of Facebook groups geared toward weight loss, exercise, strength training, organic eating and other ways of putting your own definition of wellness on to the small screen. That support and sense of community (even online) can make a big difference to people who might otherwise feel like one little person in a stadium-sized Jazzercize class or just a speck in the big old compost pile of life (too dramatic?).
Of course, you could easily focus on joining lots of groups and spend more and more time social networking with no time at all given to working out. That would clearly be counter your intentions, no matter how healthy or good.
The key, I think, is finding a Facebook group that inspires you to get up out of your chair, feel the blood pumping in your body (and not just toward your throbbing carpal tunnel wrists) and support all that healthy living you can do once you log off.
Here are three Facebook groups I found that require turning away from the screen and tuning in to your body (you'll need to have a free account and sign in to find out more about these groups):
Once you sort out the advertisement groups and groups formed just to put wackadoodle names on profile pages, you may find just the right spot for yourself and your fitness goals. And if all goes the way it should, that online group will motivate you to get away from it to work your body and hone your fitness often.
Is a Facebook group helping you keep your fitness in check?
