Do you invest in your health as much as your 401K?
user
I'll
never forget, I was only six years old, and I sat at my
grandfather's kitchen table as he gave me life
lessons. He had wonderful stories to tell, and much to teach. He
handed me five dollars to add to my piggy bank, and a handful of
walnuts. He talked to me about money, investing in my future, and
told me to take care of myself, because the future happens fast. I
listened with much admiration. Years later, his words still strike
a happy chord with me!
My grandfather passed away
when he was in his nineties. He lived a full life, and made great
investments, especially with his health. More than just planning
for his retirement and 401 k, my grandfather saw food and lifestyle
as a means to plan ahead. We can all follow in his footsteps, no
matter what our age. Especially since we are living longer than
ever, it's important to live with energy, and
have FUN along the way!
Here are 4 simple tips--things we can do now to prepare our bodies
for the long, healthy haul!!
- If You
Can't Spell It, Don't Eat
It! Processed foods age us fast! By overworking our
pancreas and digestive system, fake foods just
don't work well with our bodies. Stick with the
basics by using fresh ingredients first. Eat whole grains, fruits,
veggies, and high quality proteins and fats such as beans, nuts,
salmon. Shop the perimeter of the food store, and when you
absolutely have to buy food in a box, look at the ingredients list.
If you
can't pronounce the ingredients or have no clue
what they are, skip it
- Switch it Out! All
foods are not created equal. For example, yogurt can be a healthy
option, but if you're yogurt is filled with
sugar or chemicals, you may as well eat a candy bar, right?
We're lucky, though, because we have SO many
choices. Switch to plain all-natural yogurt and add fresh fruit.
Or, if you only eat white pasta or bread, try whole grain varieties
instead. If you switch out your "staple" foods for higher
quality options, your body will thank you in years to
come!
- Slip it
In! Ok, so you may not be ready to do a
180 when it comes to food. I totally
understand. But filling your body with antioxidants will make you
glow from the inside-out! Trick yourself by "slipping in" healthy
ingredients to your everyday choices. For example, flax is a
powerful antioxidant that's so easy to add to
almost anything! Use it when you're making
chicken fingers, add it to your cereal, sneak it in to your morning
muffins.
- Muscle
Matters! Strong muscles and healthy bones can add
years of high energy, high quality living! Make sure to build your
muscle and protect your bones by doing stretching, strength
training, or even water exercises. And, if
you're complaining about your metabolism slowing
down as you age, don't worry- strength training
can rev that up, too!! You'll become a strong,
healthy, fat burning machine in no time!

I've been surfing in the internet looking for a proper diet that would suit me. I am only 36 years old and my weight is about 95kg. I am trying all my best to walk in the afternoon after work and even skipping most meals in the day in order to reduce my weight. Reading through this web is very interesting and i hope you would suggest me of something that would help me.

I like this article. It's good. I always tell myself that I should eat less or even not eat to lose weight, but many years passing by, my weight keeps the same. After reading this article, it makes me understand that I should insist on eating fresh foods, not KFC or Mcdonald's. Say goodbye to these food forever.

When I go shopping, I switched to buying omega 3/whole wheat fiber even though it was more expensive. It fills me up better and is just plain better for me. However, I think health is much more than just what you eat, it's a multifaceted issue that encompasses more than dietary issues.

My favorite place to shop for food is GNC - General Nutritian Center. Which is a vitamin specialty shop. Downward facing dog - as the yoga instructor puts it. Sounds to me like vitamins is food for all organs and organisums. Whenever we don't eat every food on the perimad, vitamins are there to feed our body for us. See for yourself... http://www.gnc.com/home/index.jsp

I am a diabetic that is what the doc tor told me, I believe him. My blood sugar was 270. No choicce but agree with the doctor I am diabetic. I can also feel it. The doctor prescribed me 6 kinds of medication for blood sugar control cholesterol, triglicirides, blood pressure, etc. I started taking medication april 2007, but threw all my dedications after 10 months when on the 7th month I started managing my diet, eating veggies and fuits, exercise and limiting carbo intaake like I maintain less than a cup of rice, lean meat once a month on small amounts, avoid sugar laden food. Up to now I am still taking my supplemnts of aloe vera, royal jelly and artic(Omega 3). I feel better now, no more erectyle disfunctions, healthy and strong. I feel younger, by the way i am now 61 by september 11.
Diabetes is not a life threatening disease it is curable. Just watch what you eat, it is the food. Of course see a doctor. But again its discipline. Change your life style. It really helps.

I love adding Flax to my food. Its great to get anti oxidants and Omega 3. I do have a question for your readers though. I add it anyway, but I've been told that adding it to baked goods negates its purpose. I've heard that baking flax seed it loses all of its great qualities. Can anyone tell me if its true?
