Essential fats are fats that are essential to our health but cannot
be made by the body and therefore must be obtained from our diet.
Essential fats assist in our metabolism, oxygen uptake and energy
levels and therefore increase calorie burning. Essential fats are
substances that we require in the diet because the body does not
synthesize them. Linoleic acid is the basis of the omega-6 family
of essential fats, and alpha-linolenic acid is the basis of the
omega-3 family of essential fats. Essential fats are discovered in
oily fish such as wild salmon, salmon and olive oil and can also be
featured in seeds (of the sunflower variety).
Essential fats are molecules that are required by cells for
structural integrity. They must be found in the diet for good
health. Essential fats are necessary for the production of body
chemicals called prostoglandins. Prostoglandins create a balanced
immune response, they help to control blood pressure and heart
function. Essential fats are the parent molecules for the
"good" eicosanoids, which are anti-inflammatory.
Essential fats are critical to the nervous system, the kidneys and
in the manufacture of steroid and sex hormones. EFAs are necessary
for healthy blood pressure and heart function, joint, skin, hair
and nail health, prevention of fatigue and immune complications.
Essential fats are classified as polyunsaturated fatty acids. This
class of fats are relatively unstable when exposed to excessive
heat, light and oxygen.
Essential Fats are needed by every cell in the body. They have been
proven to offer positive health benefits for a number of disorders.
Essential fats are also an important component of the brain so they
can actually assist our brain function.
