Each year my daughter Anna and I participate in different
events with the goal of helping people and saving lives. Rather
walking for the March of Dimes to save premature babies, or
donating money to The Leukemia Society or selling cupcakes to help
kids through the sharing tree at Christmas. We always hope cures
will be found and people saved. As such the most valuable
opportunity has been with the Gift of Life- Organ Donation.
The reason Organ Donation is so awesome is this. They are not
looking for a cure. They are not raising funds to find a cure. They
have the technology, the ability, the skill and the knowledge to
save people, they just need the parts. My Mom worked on the kidney
transplant floor at The University of Michigan while I was growing
up. They waited up to 5 years to receive one, meanwhile living on
dialysis or dying waiting. In my state alone, Michigan over 6000
people are waiting for different organs and dying while each day
hundreds of people are buried with ones that could of saved them. I
signed up to donate my organs even though it terrifies me because I
want to save someone, someday. I have always wanted to be that hero
to someone and it is my chance to. The reason is this. Everyone
waiting is someone's Dad or Mom, lover or friend, child or
grandparent. There are so many people waiting and praying everyday
for their miracle and you can help them get that. You can even
donate bone marrow while you're alive and save a child that
would die from Leukemia without you. Please give it serious thought
and discuss your decision with your family.
