Holiday diet tips from healthy eating bloggers!

http://margaretsmusings.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/darkchocolate.jpg
I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week! I love Turkey day and all of the trimmings, but I also want to enjoy the holiday without worrying about my health (pass the gravy!) So for our November issue, we turned to some of our favorite food bloggers for their best tips.

We featured holiday eating advice from 6 of my favorite food bloggers, including our own Cristin Dillon, in the November issue. I love reading other healthy eating blogs both to get new food ideas and find inspiration to keep up my healthy habits. Just this morning I made "hot apples" for breakfast, an idea I got from Meghann over at The Inner Workings of a College Graduate. I don't like oatmeal (neither does she) but wanted something sweet and warm to eat --so I nuked a chopped apple along with some almond butter and cinnamon. Yum!

I think you'll be inspired by their tips for healthy holidays. Here are a few faves:

  • Fit foodie Jenna Weber, 24, of EatLiveRun.com completed culinary school without gaining a pound. She writes about how she balances her love of wine and dessert with plenty of running and yoga. "I eat a small piece of dark chocolate after lunch and dinner," she says. "It wards off my sweet tooth, so I can resist more processed treats. Plus, I enjoy the real stuff more--I love a piece of Lindt's Excellence A Touch of Sea Salt dark-chocolate bar."

  • "I don't miss any of the fun, and I get alone time," says trainer Gina Harney, 24, who blogs at Fitnessista.com about the diet and workout that helped her drop 40 pounds for good. If you're traveling, get a free trial pass to a local gym or pack workout DVDs and resistance bands.

  • Feast on pie and feel good about it! Skipping animal products cuts calories and fat from baked treats, says Angela Liddon, 26. She blogs about her vegan eating plan at OhSheGlows.com. "Replace butter with canola or nonhydrogenated coconut oil; substitute pumpkin or banana for eggs; trade whole milk for soymilk or rice milk."
