How well do you monitor your periods?

Poor Britney Spears can't seem to catch a break. Her tour, while sold out and getting rave reviews, has been riddled with on-stage flubs (cursing, wardrobe malfunctions, you name it), and recently she got into a, um, big mess, with ELLE. Apparently Brit had a photoshoot with the fashion mag and an insider says it was an utter disaster. "They dressed her in all these beautiful couture clothes -- and, well, let's just say she forgot what time of the month it was," says the source. "It wasn't pretty." Yuck.

That has got to be a woman's worst nightmare. Sure, woman bleed, but this incident is pretty humilating and gross. For a long time my periods were so sporadic I never knew what day they they would come, but thankfully I never had an embarrassing accident like Britney. Now I am on the pill, and my monthly visit comes pretty much to the hour every four weeks. I can't tell you how reassuring and helpful that has become.

Do you take careful note of when to expect your monthly period? Do you use a pantyliner or do anything precautionary, or do you just cross your fingers and hope for the best? [NY Post]

Although we all would love to forget this monthly dreaded thing ever happens, I have never (past my beginning teen years) "forgotten" my period. Most responsible women dont.

She's a star who runs around without panties on the regular, there is no reason to expect her to have a stash of maxipads in her Birkin bag.

Ha! The show must go on period and all. Gross.

I am now on the pill so I can tell you the day and time my period will get here. No accidents for me. However, when I was in high school, before the pill, I once attended an all-day seminar on teaching younger children. Of course, my period showed up four days early, and not a single woman at the seminar had any extra supplies. And lucky me, the restrooms didn't have a machine, either. I wound up cleaning up the best I could and making sure I kept my legs together so no one saw the stains on the crotch of my jeans, and using toilet paper as a temporary fix while praying that I didn't smell. That was the LONGEST day of my life, and all I could think about was getting home and cleaning up!!

Yeah, I keep track of my periods. It's pretty easy for me to monitor them, I'm usually very regular, unless I'm under stress. Plus my breasts get sensitive about two days before my period starts, which is a heads up.

I am pretty regular-so the day or so before I would get it I do use a pantyliner and go to the bathroom frequently to check. Other than that I don't wear light colors or skirts for those days and hope for the best. POOR Brit! Shes doing such a good job-she can't catch a break!

tweet so true "panty liners are wonderful" my period is pretty regular, but I always keep some sort of protection just in case!

To all you that are on the pill remember taking antibiotics will make the birthcontrol pill ineffective please take precautions!!!!no matter how long you've been on the pill

I cannot believe we still use the term gross. Sure it is unfortunate and not the most pleasant thing in the world, but many times it is not the person's fault ( I say many because most women are aware their period is coming and are equipped in case, but sometimes they come early and you are not necessairly equipped for whatever reason) I usually feel it coming so I make sure to have the proper protection, also Sheela, I also don't wear panties, that doesn't make me irresponsible or one who bleeds all over the place. Poor Britney, cannot catch a break. I know many will disagree with my views, but if you meet me on the street and tell me you have started your period and need help, I will not think less of you, nor will I consider you gross- something I am sure you will appreciate in your time of need.

I am on the pill so I know exactly what day I'll get my period. I wear panty liners and always carry at least 1 tampon or pad. Better safe then sorry!!

I was on the pill and would now what day my period would come. I have been off the pill for about 8 months, due to personal reasons, and it would come normally by the end of each month on Tuesday until this month.

Last week my boobs were sore, I had my sugar cravings and I was tired and these were the symptoms that I always get the week before my period. I have not had my period yet and it is freaking me out since this has never happened.

I haven't been sexually active since last year so I don't know another reason why it's not occuring. Has anyone gone through this situation? Is it a bit normally for a period to skip a month but still have the symptoms?
