How well do you monitor your periods?

Poor Britney Spears can't seem to catch a break. Her tour, while sold out and getting rave reviews, has been riddled with on-stage flubs (cursing, wardrobe malfunctions, you name it), and recently she got into a, um, big mess, with ELLE. Apparently Brit had a photoshoot with the fashion mag and an insider says it was an utter disaster. "They dressed her in all these beautiful couture clothes -- and, well, let's just say she forgot what time of the month it was," says the source. "It wasn't pretty." Yuck.

That has got to be a woman's worst nightmare. Sure, woman bleed, but this incident is pretty humilating and gross. For a long time my periods were so sporadic I never knew what day they they would come, but thankfully I never had an embarrassing accident like Britney. Now I am on the pill, and my monthly visit comes pretty much to the hour every four weeks. I can't tell you how reassuring and helpful that has become.

Do you take careful note of when to expect your monthly period? Do you use a pantyliner or do anything precautionary, or do you just cross your fingers and hope for the best? [NY Post]

C'mon people, get real. This type of accident can happen to any female! It might not have been a pleasant site but nature has its own agenda. Somebody should have spotted it and offered her a cover up as discreetly as possible. No pun intended!

I am very careful about it, I use monthlyinfo.com and they send me an email 2 days before it's supposed to start so I'm always prepared.

I went on the pill in the first place in my teens due to my no-rhyme-no-reason, didn't matter how closely I tracked them, instant old-faithful-style gush o' blood periods.

However, because of all of the above (that I had absolutely NO idea when they'd ever be coming, but when it did, it was going to be a hellacious mess), I NEVER but NEVER left home without tampons and pads somewhere on my person or in my belongings.

I have to agree give the girl a break. Everyone has had something like this happen to them, we all get our periods and know how much it sucks sometimes, everyone has stories of cramps or bloating or pains, etc...

Britney was just "lucky" enough to have it happen in front of the world where cameras and magazines could document it. I know when I've had accidents the last thing I want to do is let everyone know, yikes!!!

All I can say is laugh it up, chalk it up to experience and learn to be prepared for the next month, and offer to pay for the drycleaning, haha.

I am pretty irregular, but I still keep track or have some kind of idea when to expect it so I try to be prepared.

So she had an accident? So what? The only thing humiliating about having an accident is watching OTHER PEOPLE react to it like it's never happened before. Did it ever occur to you maybe it came as a total surprise to Britney outside of any planning or record keeping she might have been doing?

And gross? Gross is how gynophobic our society still is. Gross is how this kind of story shows up in a blog site for WOMEN - encouraging them to feel dirty and embarrassed if the same thing should happen to them.

Im 45, my period runs about 30-32 days apart some months and others it is 29 days exactly. I am home 24-7, but when I worked outside the home I always wore a teen size pad that day, just for emergencies. Then changed if it arrived. But now, being a homebody it really doesnt matter. I do think, if you are working on a fashion show, you should wear underwear and a panty liner. It is good hygiene and it shows that you are a well put together person. So, no panties at a fashion show shoot that is GROSS, everyone sees the model dressing and undressing too!
