I Tried It!: The Biggest Loser Video Game

0902-biggestloservideogame_sm.jpg

Here I am with The Biggest Loser's trainer, Bob Harper; and last season’s runner up, Tara Costa, after the workout.

Hey guys! You know I’m a bit skeptical when it comes to fitness video games…but I think I might have had a change of heart last week, after trying out the new The Biggest Loser Video Game on the Wii console:

I LOVED it! I wasn’t expecting to break into a sweat, but that’s exactly what happened after 30 minutes of jumping, squatting, crunching, lunging and mountain-climbing. The work out was set at a moderate level, but my heart rate stayed up (I was wearing my monitor) and I felt quite challenged. Plus I was sore the next day!

The game is being released this fall. Here are some features I really liked:

- It takes into account both fitness AND nutrition by offering expert tips and recipes from The Biggest Loser Cookbook. I like the holistic approach.
- You can workout with either Bob Harper or Jillian Michaels, plus compete with a friend
- The moves are clearly demonstrated for people who aren’t so coordinated, like myself! (As clear as a workout DVD, but way more interactive...)
- The duration of an exercise or number of repetitions is clearly indicated on the screen (I like knowing how many squats I have left to do, especially if I feel like I’m dying!)
- The cheesy Biggest Loser score that plays in the background is surprisingly motivating

This is a screen shot of Bob demonstrating a plank on his knees. Pretty clear, right?

What do you think? Would you try this new video game? How do you feel about working out with a gaming console in the first place? As for all you Biggest Loser fans, are you going to tune in to Season 8? It starts in a couple of weeks!

I pre-ordered this game a month ago. I'm glad to hear a positive review!!! I like fitness games, they are generally pretty good. I use EA Sports Active, it will give an awesome work out that will make you sweat.

Hi Karina. My name is Kicha and I am a fan of the Biggest Loser Reality Show. I should be on the show but can't get a baby sitter for the show duration so I haven't tried to get on. I would ideally like to lose 89 pounds and be more physically fit and learn how to eat in a better way so that I may be an inspiration and example for my children. I am not a video game enthusiast, but I am willing to save up and get a Wii and try it out... as I am taking baby steps to move and motivate myself and my children to get physically fit and lose weight so that I can be in a bikini by next year. How and where are the best places to get games and the wii console and what other parts do I need to complete the system in order to then get this game? Do you have any suggestions?

Im loving the game so far. It is much better with the balance board then without but it works with or without it. Ive only had two workouts but they were very hard and Im motivated for more. Im thinking about my calorie intake alot more during the day knowing this game is gonna want to know what I ate when I get home lol. If your a fan of the show and like these workout games it is a must buy. If you dont care about the show then maybe just stick with EA's offering.
