Infertility Diaries: The Newest Swear Word

I’ve always wondered about swear words. Like, who decided which words were swear words? Who came up with the acceptable substitutes? Because I find that darn, crap, fudge, and butthole just don’t have the same pizzazz as their more naughty originals.

I would like to throw another word out there to be categorized as a dirty word. A cuss. An automatic detention. A slap you across the mouth, don’t you ever say that word again young lady, word. One that is so offensive, it trumps the f-dash-dash-dash as the mother of all swears.

SYMPTOMS.

I’m not a believer in extremely early pregnancy symptoms. Especially during treatment cycles, when our bodies are so pumped up with hormones, and let’s face it – chemicals, that we don’t know which way is up. Of course you are going to feel pregnant when you’re shooting a vial of Progesterone in Oil into your ass butt every night!

But really – I feel like obsessing over symptoms is like paying for a one way ticket to padded rooms and strait jackets.

Having been at this for a long time, I’ve seen lots of people trying and failing for months, then getting pregnant. Lots of them. It’s always the same: every month, a laundry list of symptoms typed out on a blog or message board as proof that THIS! This is the month! I know I am pregnant because LOOK! Look at these symptoms!

Then no. Not pregnant. Over and over again until finally, inevitably: I’m Pregnant! And I totally knew because I had so.many.symptoms! Never mind that I thought I was pregnant every month for the past six months because of the exact same symptoms – it is different this time!

Even a non-symptom checker can’t escape – any time you mention that you have cramps, feel nauseated, or your bewbies hurt, you’re beat down with “OMFG you are so pregnant that is such a SYMPTOM! When I got pregnant I knew for sure because *insert ridiculous reason*”

I am pretty sure I’m in the minority here, though. I read a lot of blogs and message boards, full of ladies who are listing their symptoms and getting replies that say: This is totally your month! With those symptoms , you have to be knocked up!

How about you? Are you a symptom tracker? Or do you try your best to ignore them?
