Kate Winslet: Still a body image hero

I'll bet you didn't need yet another reason to absolutely love Kate Winslet, but she's scored yet another win for body acceptance. You'll of course remember that she blasted GQ for airbrushing away most of her BMI, and she also had extremely non-sexy washbasin sex with Patrick Wilson in a way that was somewhat unflattering. While filming her latest, The Reader, she considered whether to bare or not to bare. The directors offered her a body double for the naked scenes, but she refused:

"Describing her own body, Kate admits to having aged, but maintains she is proud of her flawed physique, saying: 'Here we go, I have a crumble baby belly, boobs are worse for wear after two kids... I'm doing all right. I'm 33. I don't look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, I look fantastic!' Of course I don't.

'Nobody is perfect. I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect!' I'm proud of that.'" (Source)

I don't believe in perfection either, but I kind of love that Kate has been thrown to the wolves for years in the body image wars, and yet keeps putting herself out there, exposing her vulnerabilities. You just have to admire that level of courage. I know I certainly don't have it. I write aboutloving yourself and accepting your flaws, and yet over the weekend, I was in a hot tub, surrounded by some of my favorite people in the world, and I was having hard a hard time enjoying myself because my upper arms were exposed. Sigh. The battle for body acceptance is constant, but at least I have heroes like Kate to look toward for inspiration.

No, I didn't need another reason to love her. She is awesome! She is a great actress, but she is someone who seems would be very easy to sit around and hang out with, without the other person feeling self conscious. She is very realistic when it comes to body image, and she earns my respect for that.

Rock on, Kate! We need to get this message across to everyone so that 9 year olds will stop developing anorexia.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking- have you seen her in Vanity Fair? I had seen those photos last week and when I read this I went back to the website just to make sure that was Kate Winslet on the cover. I mean, she looks awesome- I would absolutely love myself if I looked like that!

Come on..she's a celebrity, and that is why you look up to her for what she said?? How about real people, leading a normal life, paparazzi free, who have the same views and principals as her, but just doesn't have the opportunity to tell the world? They should be admired too! Im sick of people making celebrities as their role model.

Not to sound negative...Ok, well, maybe I am?? Why, exactly are we praising Kate Winslet in this article and there are still "diet" ads at the bottom of the page...Oxymoronic?? Don' think that's a word, but how much does that say for our society?? And, yes these are the rantings of a fat girl! :)
