Paradise Reversible Beach Start Top

Inspired by beach volleyball and paddleball, this top also will work beautifully when you're swimming laps. The fitted v-neck is so secure it can double as a sports bra. The funky black and white design is only one side. Reverse for a floral design that's more sassy than sweet. Pair it with the start bottoms that have full coverage and still make your lower half look cute. $42

Although the calendar says it is spring, it still feels like winter most days in my city. The wind and cold rain and bundling up in down jackets well into the month of April only makes me long for summer even more. I am dreaming of flip flops and grilling my dinner and swimming. I am really missing swimming.

My parents have a lake house where we are lucky to spend time in the summer months. Most of that time is spent in the water, kayaking around the lake, jumping off the pier, or swimming laps from shore to shore. I am a swimmer and so I love the exertion and exhaustion that comes from working out in the water.

What I don't love is trying to find a swimsuit that can handle all that activity and that still looks cute. I wish I didn't feel vain about the swimsuits I wear at this little lake in the middle of nowhere. But I do. And when I am out there in the elements, burning calories and getting my blood pumping, it makes a difference to feel like I look as good as my body feels in that moment.

And honestly, my graveyard of Speedo swimsuits worn as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and (very, very briefly) briefly as a competitive swimmer is full of near-sheer spandex and embarrassment. I don't need to go back there.

Oh, and did I mention that there are lots of curves in the road as you leave the Speedo burial site? That's right -- my other challenge in finding a sturdy, cute swimsuit is that it also has to fit my big bust. Just saying the words "bust" and "swimsuit" immediately makes me think I am destined to wear some pointy, cone-boobed, floral old lady suit. Maybe even one with pulleys and gears and straps with ten or twelve bra hooks to hold all of me in place while flip turn and butterfly.

Thankfully, Athleta.com's not going to let that happen. Our own Charlene Prince Birkeland, a dedicated swimmer herself, raved about Athleta's active wear to me for months. But when she showed me the suit she bought from the site for her trip to Kuaui last winter, I really took notice. Athleta's active wear is great quality and is made for real women with real bodies.

As I look forward to summer, I am also looking forward to snatching up one of their performance swimsuits made just for women with C - DD cups. The prints are bright and pretty and they'll keep you supported while you swim, splash, sail, or just kick back in an inner tube.

Here are 4 great Athleta performance suits that will flatter your fuller chest and let you focus on your swim fitness.

Yay! Thanks! I'm losing weight, so I hope I'll be able to look good in a couple of these suits this season. :)

Its great that the models in the suits are small, it helps us large chested ladies out with the visual. Sirously next think about it.

I was about to say that myself, laceysgraphics. Really helps me imagine what my (DD or so) chest is going to look like...

I'm sorry but NO. These suits are still fugly and frumpy as hell. I'm 26 and a 34DD - where are suits for younger, stylish women with big boobies!! I like www.venus.com, they have D and DD tops in a variety of styles - even underwire!

Laceysgraphics6, I agree with you a 100%. They need models with the kind of boobs that are meant to go in those suits.

And Nic5...sigh, they are not your style. And they wouldn't be my style for a regular swimsuit either (and I am not 26, nor have I been for a while). But I do think they are cuter than a host of the suits out there designed for athletics over aesthetics.

Nic - Most of us don't (and don't want to) look like Playboy bunnies, so these fit the bill! It would be nice to see someone with a realistic body, and one with more than a C cup in them, though.

Ladies, a couple of comments. 1) We REALLY need to see models/pictures with actual large chests for the suits they are claiming to be able to fit. 2) THEY need to realize that large chests do not, I repeat DO NOT, end at DD.

I am 5'0", and a 38DDD, that is DDD. Depending on the bra, I actually fit into a G up to a K (I have actually been measured at K cup size). The industry needs to understand that DD is not that large, and to conform to women now, instead of 50 years ago!

The women modeling are not large chested women so I can't tell if these swimsuits will fit my needs. I am a 38DDD, can you relate?
