Mmm...Fit Celebs: Russell Simmons on yoga (yup, you read right)

I have to admit, Russell Simmons has never intrigued me in the way his former wife, wackadoodle of excess extraordinaire Kimora Lee Simmons, has me ashamedly compelled into watching marathons of her reality show on weekends. Somehow, the only interesting thing about him to me seemed to be his choice of (ex) wife. Sure, he runs a bedillion-gajillion dollar business and is an icon of the hip hop industry, but he always seemed like well-suited wallpaper when standing so seriously next to the amazon that is Kimora Lee.

Until today, when I saw this video of Russell Simmons talking -- of all things -- yoga on Living Well.



Yes, you read right. Russell Simmons does the Sun Salutation and talks about how yoga has brought him closer to his own journey to God, how it radiates from within and how it impacts his business life and may have been a part of his past life.

The conversation is about the big stuff of a dedicated yoga practice, and yet, is all very low-key. Plus, how can you not love a guy in baggy jeans and scrubbed-white sneakers talking asana and pranayama and prayer beads?

Russell Simmons could be a brutall business man and an awful husband or someone I'd never want to know in real life -- how could you ever know for sure? -- but here, in this video on yoga, he seems calm, kind and centered. And I love that about it.

And hey, it's not a bad day when a hip hop mogul makes you want to do al ittle yoga on the living room floor.
