More bad news about bad fats: It can lead to overeating!

If you're reading this, you probably already know that saturated fat is bad for you. It clogs your arteries which causes high cholesterol which is linked to heart disease, hence the nickname "bad fat."

Turns out, it could also make you... well... fat. According to a new study, certain types of saturated fat (think: red meat, whole milk, cheese and butter) may actually override those handy "whoah, I'm stuffed, stop eating!" signals your body sends out...

The study author, Dr. Deborah Clegg, told FoodNavigator.com this: "Our findings suggest that when you eat something high in fat, your brain gets 'hit' with the fatty acids, and you become resistant to insulin and leptin. Since you're not being told by the brain to stop eating, you overeat."

But, don't clear fat off your plate entirely: oleic acid, the type of unsaturated fat in olive oil, avocados and nuts, didn't have the same effect. Plus, a study out last year in the journal Cell Metabolism reveals that oleic acid helps curb hunger and improves fat digestion.

The stay-slim takeaways from this research? Switch to low-fat dairy, eat red meat in moderation and dip bread in olive oil instead of butter.

Plus, if you're still craving that butter-y flavor, try our SELF Food Award winner for the best trans-fat free margarine: Promise Activ Light. "It's thick and, yes, it tastes like real butter," one tester noted. Slather 1 tbsp on toast instead of butter to save nearly 3 g saturated fat and 57 calories.

Ok... Shine! on the front page you have the article title talking about Trans fats, but this story is talking about Saturated fats... they are two different fats with two different functions and characterizations... Butter (and other saturated fats) are not trans fats nor do they act the same way.

Now how is it that eating diet stuff with no fat or sugar at all can make people overeat, and then eating foods with lots of saturated fats can make them overeat, too?

Here's my zen thought for the day:

    Overeating makes you OVEREAT!

    Oh, and this:

"'Our findings suggest that when you eat something high in fat, your brain gets 'hit' with the fatty acids, and you become resistant to insulin and leptin. Since you're not being told by the brain to stop eating, you overeat.'"

That "suggestion" is complete bullsh*t. There's a reason God put a "fullness center" in your brain, so it can tell your body it's full. Your taste buds absolutely love the taste of fat... that's why we love ice cream so much... but they have no relation to your brain's satiety center.

Our problem is that we've ignored it so much, we don't even notice it anymore. Just like a perfume you wear every day... after a while you don't smell it anymore. If we keep telling our brain to f*ck off every time it tells us we're full, we won't hear it anymore.
