Natural cures.... Help or Hype?

Well, as I sit here to query you all on your thoughts about natural remedies I realized that I tend to be a "half off an on" with this topic. Though I do believe firmly in alternative medicine such as herbal remedies, meditation and accupressure-puncture I don't think I give them a good platform to work in. Bromelain works great on inflamation, I use it for my arthritis but at the same time I'm taking it with Pepsi! So what is your take on going "natural"  - what works for you and do you only add things to your regular and or somewhat "sloppy" lifestyle like me..... junk food addict, or have you adapted a new lifestyle and what has it done for you?

I have decided that enough with manufactured medicines. I really do not know what is in them. I don't know enough of the chemistry to consider what they could do to my health now or further down the road. I do natural medicine whenever possible. I have tried all kinds of weight loss supplements, diets, and exercise programs. I finally found that when I started to relax and was not so worried about my weight and health, I started to naturally recover. I hardly eat junk food and am pretty strict on meal portions. I do moderate exercise and try not to worry if I mess up one day. More veggies and less pasta has helped me not to feel so bulky. I am losing weight and feel happier. I am gaining the confidence I once had and look forward to more gains in my appearance and health.

Morning all, Lenssavvy.... excellent I agree with you. Many of the traditional medicines seem to do more harm than good, there are some true life savers but I think we need to be proactive with our choices especially with our health. My husband has been on two high grade injectable for his MS... both left him actually feeling worse and having more relaspes! Neurologist took him off them and now thinks he should be on an injectible called Tysabri which has one drawback brain infection or death! She can't understand why he has decided to go with lower scale less invasive meds for the pain and some natural remedies. He actually has had less relaspes since being off injections. My problem like I stated is I can't seem to kick the sweets. I make very healthy meals and take several natural remedies and don't smoke or drink but boy I can't say no to a cookie. I'm really glad to read of your conviction and how improved your health and confidence levels are, keep up the good work. Blessings, Suzette

Suzette, SuperAbuelita is pure inspiration. If you need to be reminded of how faith can hlep you through tough times, she would be the one I would talk to. I have a 7 week old granddaughter, love chocolate, and art in any form. My grandmother was a wildcrafter. SHe sold bark, leaves and roots to pharmacuetical companies. I do know she had a natural cure for almost every ailment. I only know of two that worked for a fact, her worm medicine, and anti-scar ointment. (I had wrecked my motorcycle and sliced open the side of my mouth to my jaw. The doctor told my mother, he had done the best he could but there was going to be a scar. Grands to the rescue. I have a tiny scar inside the corner of my mouth, nothing else.) Hope to see you around. Emma Mae

    Good morning Suzette!

Excellent post. I take Vitamin sublingual B-12. I also

take mag citrate for muscle cramps from my car accident

in 2005. My doc had me taking pain killers for a year.

I stopped taking them and went to see a natural path.

    She is fantastic.

    here is her website:

    .

Its just down the road from me:)

I still drink soda sometimes. I am trying to cut back.

During the hot summer months its easier to stay away from soda

because of the tremendous Texas heat. You only want water.

    Have a great day!

Thanks to Habanero, I have totally quit drinking sodas, and I read labels for hidden high fructose corn syrup! I've always prefered herbal remedies over prescription meds, and natural fresh foods over processed. Not to say that I don't eat them at all, but I am working towards that goal. Still looking for something to help with migraines...

I take echinacea every day, and haven't had colds or flu, for about five years! I love garlic, and am trying to incorporate that into my foods daily too (another Habanero tip!)

Hello Suzette. Your painting is beautiful!!

I try not to take any pills if I can help it - whether they be natural or man made. I try to get my vitamins from food, etc. Of course I do take whatever the doctor prescribes when I need to but otherwise I just try to tough it out.

I'm now shifting to the comment you left on my blog about "routines"... It must be interesting around your house with YOU being a "non-routine" kinda gal and your husband being one that needs his routines... Whatever works for you though!! :-)

I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Hi Suzette, how are you? I think it is better to do natural! I take a few things like fish oil tabs and flax seed oil. I had a heart attack in 08 so I need to take better care of me and I still drink pop even though I know I shouldn't.
