Om Moment: Letting go of stress over money (at least for the weekend)
You'd think that the end of the week would be the ideal time to let go of stress. But some Fridays, as I scribble out my weekend to-do lists and shopping lists and go through budgets and bills, I can feel the stress building up even more than it does on Mondays.
I feel it creeping up the back of my neck or in the pit of my belly or in my hands as I click away at online bill pay and clip coupons and revise the things I
must get at Target.
And really, what what I need, what would serve me better, is to leave all that money anxiety in my wallet where it belongs. At least for one weekend.
I'm hoping
this lovely little meditation -- which will take two minutes or less to read through and breathe deeply through -- will help us all release that internal chaos and take the break we need this weekend.
After all, the bills will still be there on Sunday night. Or Monday morning. And what's healthy now might just be letting them stay there for a few less-stressed days.
Need to get more OM on?

This is true! I definately worry about the bills and things on the weekdays or on a sunday and enjoy my friday and saturday at least. I haven't quite mastered getting out of the habit of all the errand running on weekends, after all it's more convenient! Leaving bills and balancing the checkbook for the sundays and mondays is a great idea-and definately reduces stress and allos you to enjoy the weekend!

Thank you for this! i was feeling the tightening of the throat the last couple days when i thought about what is due this week.. Immediately I go to my affirmation "The energy of money is my friend, we work in harmony, learn and grow together". It helps me not attach emotionally to the "reality". More interesting is it works.. the phone began ringing and appointments were being made for the slow week I was seeing in my appointment book.
For someone who has felt blessed to love my work, I felt "tested" for the upcoming week as I viewed my "usually" filled columns.
A teacher of the principle, thoughts + emotions = physical manifestation I could not help but wonder, What did I do or not do?
Feeling the pull to go to the recently discovered world of blogging I found this.
Sorry for such a long thank you but it is greatly appreciated and always a reminder we are students as well as teachers every day in all we do. peace~love and ABUNDANCE. Beth L.

Oh yeah as if a 3yr old is going to let you sit someplace by yourself and meditate. Who are these carefree people who think life is just a easy fix? how about some real answers for those of us with real money problems.

DA, I hear you, honey. I have a three year old myself and believe me, I have been through some awful, stressful money times. It hasn't worked for me as a mom (and now as a single mom) to try to meditate with a kid around. But it has worked for me to take a few extra minutes to breathe in the shower or do a five minute meditation while he naps or put up a paragraph (like the one linked here) on the kitchen cabinet door to read while I stir spaghetti sauce. None of these are miracles, but they've helped me personally.
Anyone else have words of wisdom to offer up?

I am a single mom with an 8 year old so I feel for you single mom's with a 3 year old. It is tough no matter what the age of your children and it is definitely hard to find time for yourself! I agree with what Jessica Ashley said you do what you can to try to de-stress even if it is posting something on the fridge to remind you. That doesn't always work either because some days there just isn't enough time. I have to wait sometimes until my son goes to bed to get a few minutes to myself and by then I am too tired. :-)

It is nice to read an article like this one. To realize that everyone is feeling the crunch of never ending bills, rising gas and grocery prices and trying to raise a family. I will try to de-stress this weekend. I have to take one day at a time. As I was reading this article I saw another article on the side "Seriously, Summer shouldn't be this Stressful!" My sentiment exactly! I don't think I have ever had such a stressful summer. I think my only option to de-stress though is to look for a second job. I will be tired, but some money problems will be gone. Thank you for this article:)
