Oprah feels like a failure because she weighs 200 pounds

oprah-cover.jpg
The big news today is that Oprah has gained weight. Not just gained weight. She claims that she now weighs 200 pounds. She stands on the cover of her magazine, next to a thinner version of herself, looking at her former body apologetically, hiding in a freaking jogging suit, as though the approximation of workout wear lessens the blow.
"I'm embarrassed," she writes. "I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?"' (Source)
I haven't read the whole article, only snippets leaked early to AP, but what I have read seems to amount to self-flagellation. She whimpers about not setting a good example, and uses the words "failure," "disappointing" and "fat cow."

What do you think about Oprah's vegan diet?

How sad is it that the richest woman in show business, arguably one of the most inspiring success stories for anyone who has ever tried to start something from nothing, is measuring her successes by the stupid number on a scale? How sad is it that an arbitrary number like "200" would be the knell of failure? And what kind of example is she setting now for people who are, say, 200 pounds or more, and now have just been told by Oprah that their weight is a "failure" or "disappointing."

Promise me something this week: you will not weigh yourself. Not even once. You are not the sum of your parts. You are not your fat ass. You are you. You are your accomplishments. You are the amazing friendships that you have built around you. You are amazing. And don't let Oprah tell you otherwise.

It's time to shut up already with the self hating!

I think a nice size for Oprah is a size 14 or even 16. I think those strict diets she goes on and workouts cause her to gain it back. Nobody can stay on diets like that and strenous workouts all their life. She should eat any moderation and some exercise. If she gets to a size 14 , besatisfied eat healthy and stop worrying about being a size 10. I'm getting tired of her talking about her weight when she's small or big. She makes a cause of it.

She feels guilty because shes been preaching about being healthy

and she didnt do it. Shes had overweight people on her show with

Dr. Oz telling them how to be healthy, and you now weigh 200lbs.

    I'd be embarassed too.

In order to loose weight you must take care of how you feel inside first, then the outside will start looking better. You need to learn how to make the best, sensible and healthiest decisions regarding your life. NEVER insult yourself nor make degrading comments. If you are beautiful inside that beauty will shine outside.

Good Lord. This woman just doesn't shut up. Who else besides herself care about what her weight is? If she feels disgusted with herself, then she should just do something about it. Why does she have to tell the entire world? She's an attention seeker and I'm about sick of her. She and everyone else around her need to stop making excuses for it and decide she's either going to be overweight and happy with herself or a reasonable weight and be happy with herself. There is no excuse, not her childhood, not her adult trials and tribulations or anything else that should be the "buts" in this. Either do something about it or hush - well, either way, just hush up.

I agree that you should see yourself as a person and not let the number on the scale dictate how you feel as human being. I've been many sizes and weights over the years from thin to heavy. My self esteem when I was thin was horrible, because of the people in my life telling me I was unacceptable. When I moved out of the influence and gained some weight, I felt better because I was actually living - going out with friends, having a life. Now, I am heavy, but I am married to a great man who does not look at my size - but values me for who I am. Unfortunately I have to take certain medications that do not help with weight - but I'd rather be heavier and alive than skinny and dead. I will tell you that I am very careful about what I eat and I bought Billy Blanks Amped workout set about three weeks ago and use it regularly. I feel great! I do this for myself and my health, not because I feel like a failure or like I have to impress someone.

Its natural that Oprah feels this way,she is famous and rich but it does not shange the fact that she is a human being who feels disappointed when something goes wrong, this is unshangeble, and it is good that she feels this way becouse she gona do whatever it takes to lose weight.

Duh...because it makes people talk about her(like we are doing now)...therefore selling more magazines.. Because she reaches so many women...she is setting a bad example as a role model. BMI is imperfect, but she isn't 200lbs from working out and developing muscle and living a healthy lifesytle... She 200lbs from poor dietary choices and lack of proper workouts... (Which is really lame because she literally has access to anything and anyone).

If Oprah, one of the wealthiest women in the U.S. feels like a failure, than what would I be? Also people's weight issues need to stop being news, boring!!!! Get over it Oprah, it's really not that bad.

Some people don't want to be fat and don't see it as a positive. I'm thinking this is most people.
