Portion control tips from readers

When I blogged earlier this week about Measure Up Bowl (what I'm now using to keep my breakfast cereal serving size in check!) Yahoo Shine's Healthy Living page picked up the post on their site and commenters immediately started weighing in with their own tips for keeping their servings the right size. Read on for my three favorite creative and cost-free tricks after the jump!

Buy a kids sectioned plate. fill up the largest section with veggies and use the small sections for the pasta and meats.

You can also wash and re-use your lean cuisine plates. They are perfectly portioned for protein, veggies, and fruit (or starch).

You can also use only a salad plate for dinner. Helps your portions appear bigger and no room to overfill your plate. I do this without really thinking about it because I know after measuring my correct portions are not going to be much more than a salad plate. Unless I am actually having a salad ironically. If you dont add a bunch of cheese and croutons and creamy dressing you can make a really large yummy salad.

I have started to use the plastic section plates that resemble the styrofoam ones... the smaller sections for meat and starches and the big section for veggies. :D

I use an actual 1/2 cup measuring cup to eat my icecream out of. That way I can still enjoy a treat and keep my portions in check. It's way too easy to just gobble it up.

Mm... sita, I do something similar... I use those little 6 oz Pyrex bowls.
