"Bricks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." I'm sure many of us have heard of this saying, just as I'm sure that we all know that its not true.
Words are powerful. "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit" Proverbs 18:21 (NIV).
Words can leave scars or heal wounds. They build people up or tear them down. So often, I find that the person I'm tearing down the most is the person I look at in the mirror. A bad habit developed over time because of words that have been spoken to me. Lies that I have allowed myself to believe; that I haven't shaken off yet.
Let us think before we speak and be a blessing and not a curse.

Report AbuseI told many people that whoever made up that "Sticks and Stones" saying needs to have their head examined. Words can be very soothing, but the tongue can be one of the most destructive weapons on the planet, for mental wounds don't heal nearly as quickly as physical ones can. You're right. What we say can make or break a situation. I'm always asking God to take my words and monitor them, to be sure I don't say something that could hurt someone else. Great post!!! God bless you!!! Report AbuseTrue.
Words can destroy people. We seldom remember kind words that someone said to us, but we definitely remember the hurtful ones.
Someone said that we can forgive people for what they did to us but we hardly ever forget how it made us feel.
When I was younger I was too stubborn and self righteous and self centered to even think about the effect my words could have on someone else.
Nowadays I try to put a watch before my mouth before I speak.
