"Relax." What Does *That* Mean??

I haven't blogged in a while- I've been busy trying to keep my life more or less "drama- free" in preparation for the upcoming school year. This has been bitterly unsuccessful.

I've been working nearly full- time at the new job, which is pretty stressful, but which almost paid off in my mind as I gazed lovingly at my check on Friday.

Also, for the past week, I have been battling evil in the form of my college's housing committee. First-- five days before move- out time-- they stuck me with a psycho b**** for a roommate. After one night- during which she attempted to kill me via a busted light and break my friend's refrigerator- I went to see the housing people and asked that they remove this person from my room. They explained that Psycho B had had a problem with her old roommate (gee, I wonder why?!) and needed somewhere to stay, and my room was the only one that was suitable (darn my cleanliness!). I reminded them that my life was in danger, so shouldn't that trump everything else? Apparently not!!!

They proceeded to add insult to injury (literally) when, a few days later, they informed me that I would not be moving out of my room on Saturday as planned, but on Monday at noon. Even after I told them I wouldn't be able to move at that time, and even after my boss went buck- wild explaining to them that she needed me on Monday at noon, all they did was allow me to move during the evening. So tomorrow, I will be lugging boxes all night. Fun.

Anyway, I'll get to the point. A friend talked me into taking samba (dance) classes, which I've been attending for two weeks. The good news is, I now know that I suck at samba. And it's not for lack of talent. It's because, as my instructor has said ad nauseum, I can't relax. All the other women in the class seem to have mastered the concept. But I feel like I've been working so much at a job that stresses me out, as well as balancing that with my two other jobs, and warring against College Housing and Psycho Bs, and working out my health problems and my family and friends' drama- I'm like, "'Relax'? What's that? How do you do that? Will it really help me with my samba??"

Does anybody remember how to relax? I seem to have forgotten....

I empathize completely. I haven't always been the greatest at relaxing and taking time off from work. But I'm getting better about it. Here are some fun things I do when I'm starting to feel stress taking over my life: http://buzz.prevention.com/community/laura08/want-to-be-superwoman-start-by-conquering-stress
