Saturday Night’s Alright for Dieting? Hardly.

We all know what’s around the corner: Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. And you know what that means: lots of sugar, fat and—if you celebrate Hannukah—fried things galore.

But if you’re already thinking about what will happen to your diet come Halloween or Thanksgiving, you might be thinking too far ahead. According to a recent study, there’s a day that plagues dieters every week: Saturday.

Surprised? Now that I think about it, I’m not. My usual Saturday morning goes something like this: sleep late, feed the dog, eat breakfast, read the news, play on Facebook, check out cool new finds on Etsy, ignore dog when he asks me to take him for a walk, read, write. Only around 11 a.m. do I finally take the dog for a walk or go to the Farmer’s Market. By 11 a.m. on a weekday, I’ve already gone running, possibly taken the dog on another walk, and worked for two-and-a-half hours. I’ve also eaten a healthy breakfast. But on Saturdays, I’m usually feeling lazy and am all too happy to eat a breakfast involving eggs and home fries. (”I’ve earned this,” I told myself when I decided not to run last Saturday.) See how many fewer calories I’ve already burned on a Saturday than on a Wednesday?
