Say NO To Sleeping Pills - A Natural Alternative

On Sunday, September 14, 2008 USA Weekend Magazine ran an advertisement for Ambien CR, the top-selling prescription sleeping pill. Even though the actual ad was only 3/4 page, it was followed by two complete pages of safety information, including possible side effects such as hallucinations, depression, memory loss, anxiety and vomiting. The number-one side effect according to sanofi-aventis U.S. LLC, manufacturer of the drug, was “…getting out of bed while not fully awake and (doing) an activity that you do not know you are doing.”

In many cases the first line of defense against insomnia is prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications. However, a recent analysis of national survey data by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) reveals that over 1.6 million American adults use some form of complementary and alternative medicine to treat insomnia.

Resound Studios, in Phoenix , Arizona , has released a new product that offers a safe, natural alternative to prescription medication for combating insomnia. "Somnience" is an 8-hour long CD of ambient music with brainwave entrainment pulses, designed to help people with insomnia get a full, restful night’s sleep without the use of prescription drugs and their potentially dangerous side effects.

There are some CD’s of sleep music currently available, but these CD’s are generally 30 minutes to 1 hour in length. They may help you fall asleep but after that, you’re on your own. If you find yourself waking up, you are instructed to start the CD over, or even set them to repeat over and over all night long. New Age, jazz or classical music can be pretty distracting at 4:00AM.

However, your brain goes on a roller coaster ride over an 8-hour period, starting with light sleep state, similar to a meditative state, down the tracks to deep sleep, where your body is refreshed, and uphill to your REM or dream state, and repeating the cycle of hills and valleys five to six times a night. Somnience is the first 8-hour CD to contain brainwave entrainment pulses that match your brain’s normal nocturnal thrill ride and keeps you right on track.

“Somnience" is one continuous, shifting, evolving piece of ambient music – soft wispy clouds of sound that fill your room. The music drifts you off to sleep over the course of the first hour, guides you through the different stages of sleep, and then gently wakes you up in the last hour without the use of blaring buzzers, beepers, bells or other intrusive alarms.

Another unique aspect of "Somnience" is that the CD contains a single MP3 file that can be played on virtually any DVD player or CD player with MP3 playback capabilities. It will also play in any computer through standard music software; Windows Media Player, Music Match, iTunes, etc. Somnience is best played through speakers so the sound fills the room. However, if you do not have a sound system in your bedroom, the music can be listened to on headphones through your iPod or other MP3 player.

Somnience is currently selling in Phoenix and Scottsdale , AZ through Spa Du Soleil, Naturopathic Wellness Center , and independent specialty bookstores, such as Changing Hands and Vision Quest Metaphysical Bookstore. It is also available online at www.somnience.com, and through Amazon, iTunes, MusicZeit and CD Baby digital downloads.
