Study Shows That Binge Drinkers Are More Likely to Exercise

Boozers tend to exercise much more than other people, according to a new government health study—and no, we're not talking about the Triceps Beer Stein Hoist or the Fifty Yard Stagger. Even more surprisingly, the more people drink, the more they jog, pump iron, row or otherwise exert themselves. Moderate drinkers work out more than teetotalers, and heavy drinkers exercise the most of all. (If that wasn't enough to make a toast to—while on the Stairmaster, of course—a British study indicates that champagne may lower "bad" cholesterol.)

Read more about how drinking can affect your weight.

Researchers said they weren't sure why an activity like heavy drinking that's usually considered unhealthy strongly corresponds with one that's good for you. Our guess: it's related to the average four inches that regularly boozing adds to a woman's waistline. So we want to know from you: Do you think drinkers exercise more to cut the calories? Or do both activities satisfy thrill seekers? (Pass the endorphin margarita, please!)

Champagne, yes! I'll have a glass while I'm on the StepMaster, we can talk then. Of course, I'll have to put down this martini, but it's early in the day. I'll adapt.

Hey! Interesting! I like to drink my wine and I also exercise almost everyday! But I have friends that drink a lot and are couch potatoes. I think that this study is silly like most studies. The interent just needs a lot of info to fill up its never ending space!

LOL, that is too funny. I do like to drink. I would not say binge although I have been known too. This is true for me because I def. like to workout alot 3-5 days a week. I wonder what this means....

im thinking that heavy drinkers feel a need to exercise off the excess calories of alcohol and the munchies consumed while drinking. makes sense to me...

Actually, it is rather simple - Heavy drinkers are probably prone to excessive behaviors. Therefore, they take everything to the extreme including exercise. I am really tired of superficial research studies that offer facts but do not provide a possibly explanation on why this may be so. All they do is get people riled up for nothing (Maybe the reason why breast fed babies appear smarter is because their mothers are often highly educated AND more dedicated to their kids education and growth. Breast milk is not the miracle potion - a dedicated parent is).

this seems pretty on point to me..my friends and i are known to do our share of heavy drinking..but you can be sure that we work out 4-5 times a week..hiking, running, classes, yoga..all of it..we know in order to stay fit and still have fun, we have to work hard.
