The Only Real No-Rip Off Way to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

These days, everyone is in a frenzy over p90X. It's a great program, and it works because it focuses on building muscle and sensible eating. But, there really is no secret to any of the successful weight loss programs. The most popular programs today are just re-worked yoga and weight programs, reminiscent of  "Stop the Madness" by Susan Powter -- remember her?  Or "Body by Jake" -- remember him? These "secret" fat blast programs all work the same way. Convince people that they have captured magic in a bottle or that they know the only true way to lose pounds.  And, oh, all you have to do to find out is peel off some of that cool cash you got there in your pocket.

Truth is, there is no "secret" to the secret. Losing weight only happens when you burn more than you eat. Sweat more than you chew. End of story. End of secret. That said, I can tell you that I have lost and kept off 58 pounds for 10 years. Yay for me!

These are the weight loss strategies that work. There are a few of them and there's no shame in trying and failing on some of them and slinking back to try again. Over the years, you'll learn something with each failure.

1. Write it down. Wite down what you eat. Studies have found that most people eat a lot more than they are aware of. Writing down what you eat stops the "unconscius eating" that piles on pounds.
2. Change one thing at a time.
3. Weight watchers.
4. 100 sit-ups a day. Call them crunches, whatever you wish. But just doing 100 a day will get you the lean muscle you need to jumpstart your resting metabolic rate. You will then burn calories--about 70 a day, even while you sleep. It adds up.
5. Get Thee to a Group.  Overeaters Anonymous, weight watchers, etc. These groups work. Isolation doesn't work. Isolation actually promotes depression and weight gain. Eevryone gets down at some point in thier weight loss struggle. Joining a 12-step program or another group such as weight watchers or even just teaming up with a weight-loss buddy has been proven effective in shedding pounds over the long haul.
6. Eat foods that speed up metabolism. Studies have found that certain foods help your weight loss cause more than others because they incrementally speed up your basal metabolism. Curry and red peppers head this list.

I am trying to lose and I came to the conclusion that a workout in the morning and the evening would get things going, and fast.

Some incorrect and dangerous information here. First of all, do not begin any diet that you cannot or do not plan on doing the rest of your life. Eating healthy is something that you will have to do the rest of your life. Many people who do diets such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, end up gaining the weight back. (Kristy Alley gained all her weight back, plus 10lbs).

Do, however, what this article suggests and keep a food journal to see what and how you are eating. I would also suggested writing the time and any emotions you are feeling at the time you are eating to see any patterns.

Begin doing 100 crunches a day, and you are on your way to herniated disks in your lumbar spine. Some of the top leaders in the Fitness Profession profession say that crunches too, not just sit ups, can lead to back injuries, as they take the spine out of alignment. Plus, you will be creating a muscle imbalance. Whenever you work a muscle, you always want to work the agonist or opposite muscle equally. Therefore, if your are flexing your spine in a crunch, you also want to do an exercise that extends the spine to work the spinal erectors and other lower back muscles.

Spicy foods may have been found to increase your metabolism, but in such minute amounts, that it will not make a difference in weight loss. It also might create a false sense that your are burnig more calories than you actually are, leading to eating more than you should.

I read that steroids can increase appetite as well as cause tissue edema. Maybe you can select better choices (low-fat alternatives) to your eating plan and exercise more. Hope this helps ;) Good luck! Congrats on beating cancer.
