Usually you hear that you are supposed to eat less when dieting, but you have to take my post title with some wisdom. Of course I'm not saying eat more donuts or pizza, but I find that some clients are not eating enough throughout the day to keep their metabolism burning fat and calories. These also happen to be the clients that say I can't seem to lose weight.
It's a weird twist but very simple… if you don't keep giving your body meals, snacks and beverages throughout the day, your body may think you're starving and our programmed dna will say, hold on to fat! It's an old, old program but we can't forget we have it because so many people feel if they stop eating or only eat one meal per day they'll lose weight. Granted it might work in the short term but not for your health or longevity of fat loss.
The 3 best foods to snack on during are:
1. Vegetables, vegetables and more vegetables! Spread peanut butter or almond butter on celery sticks for a high-protein snack or dip carrots & bell peppers in 1 tbsp or hummus
2. Fruit: bananas, apples, peaches and pears are filled with fiber and sure to keep your stomach from rumbling
3. Nuts: a small handful of almonds or walnuts are not only a great source of omega-3 fatty acids but also antioxidants, protein and fiber.
The eat-every-3-to-4-hours plan is something I give most of my clients to help them lose weight. Now I can't give a away all my diet secrets and trust me I won't, but this one is yours to take away today and start a new plan for yourself.
The point of this kind of diet philosophy is telling your body to start increasing metabolism to keep burning food over a period of time. This way your body and mind know you'll be getting food over the course of the day and won't need to hold on to fat reserves because it's going into famine. Yes, very paleolithic, very primitive, but on one level our bodies and brains still function this way.
