How much more sugar do kids' cereals have than adults'? And how much more sodium? FatFighterTV has a look at this story and other diet and fitness headlines making news this week.

Food labeling program halted after concerns from FDA

You may not be seeing The Smart Choices labels on food products much longer. The program has been voluntarily halted after the FDA said it could be misleading. The labels are supposed to make it easier for us to spot healthier foods, but the green check mark has been showing up on the front of boxes of sugar-laden cereals like Cocoa Krispies and Froot Loops. Last week, the FDA sent out a letter to food makers, saying it will crack down on those that go against federal labeling rules.Smart Choices is among several nutrition labeling programs now being used, all with different nutritional criteria.

Kids’ cereals have 85% more sugar than adults’
It may be a no-brainer that most kids’ cereals have more sugar than adults’, but wow – 85 percent more?! That’s what a new study from Yale University finds. It also shows kids’ cereals have 65 percent less fiber and 60 percent more sodium than those made for adults. Last year, Consumer Reports found some popular children’s cereals have as much sugar as a glazed donut.

The new 64-calorie (and below) beers
Have you seen the ads for all the new ultra low-calorie beers? It’s not about 100 calories anymore. Now, a battle is brewing to cut calories way down, like to just 64 calories (Miller Genuine Draft 64), even 55 calories  (Budweiser Select 55). Both have less than three percent alcohol compared to 100 calories and four percent alcohol in most light beers, and 150 calories and five percent alcohol in most regular American beers.

I haven’t tried any of these ultra low-cal brews. Have you?
