Do your kids take vitamins? Are you a fair-weather exerciser? FatFighterTV has a look at these and other diet and fitness headlines making news this week.
Are you a fair-weather exerciser?
I can definitely relate to this one. A new report finds women step up their walking when it’s warm outside. Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh say many women are fair-weather exercisers, walking an average of 2,000 more steps a day in the summer than in the winter - about one mile more a day. And the groundhog seeing his shadow this week isn’t helping things… :)
Babies born to obese moms more likely to die early
The obesity epidemic can take its toll even on infants. New research shows babies born to obese mothers are more at risk for dying, especially during the first weeks of life, compared to those born to normal-weight mothers. While the risk went up for obese women no matter how much weight they gained, the study finds the risk of babies dying tripled among moms who gained the most weight - one pound or more each week.
One third of kids take vitamins
Do your kids take vitamins? A new report finds about a third of U.S. children and teens do, even though most of them are healthy, active kids who probably don’t need them. Ironically, the study shows children who could benefit the most from vitamins - those in fair or poor health with the worst eating habits - were the least likely to take them.
