Another holiday weekend, another beef recall. So far, 12 people have been hospitalized, two with kidney failure because of a possible E. coli outbreak. FatFighterTV has a look at this story and other diet and fitness headlines making news this week.

E. coli Warning: 380,000 pounds of beef recalled
Just before Memorial Day weekend, there was this ground beef recall because the meat was contaminated with E. coli. Now, 380,000 pounds of various beef products are being recalled because of another possible E. coli outbreak.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says at least 23 people in nine states may have gotten sick after eating beef produced by JBS Swift Beef Company of Greeley, Colorado. And at least 12 people have been hospitalized, two of them with kidney failure. Health officials investigating the E. coli illnesses say most people who got sick ate ground beef, and many said it was undercooked. You can find more information about the recall here.

Americans getting even more obese
Obesity rates are still going up, up, up! A new report finds the number of obese adults has increased in 23 states and did not go down in any states in the past year. The report – F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing in America 2009 – shows Mississippi has the highest rate of adult obesity at 32.5 percent – the fifth year in a row the state has topped the list. Colorado has the lowest rate of obese adults – 18.9 percent. See how each state ranks here.

Can athletic seals help kids get moving?
What do five northern fur seals have to do with kids and exercise? A new exhibit at the New England Aquarium is designed to inspire the obese generation of kids to get moving. The “Move It!” program has seals stretching, jumping, and swimming, while panels around the aquarium show the moves and encourage children to try them. Some kids will even be allowed to exercise with the seals.
