Unilever removes trans fat from its margarines
Unilever – the maker of soft margarines like I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter and Shedd’s Spread Country Crock – says it plans to remove all partially hydrogenated oils – artificial trans fats – from its soft-spread brands. The change will begin next month and be done by the second quarter of 2010.

More people exercise for health benefits than appearance

Do you workout to feel good or to look good? A new survey finds most dedicated fit people exercise for their health, rather than for their looks…  and they want to stay healthy for themselves and for their loved ones. Results also show, even the tough economy has not kept active people from skimping on their workouts.

Does your exercise routine keep you from talking?

Obesity medical costs at $147 billion a year
A new report from the CDC estimates the medical cost of obesity may be as high as $147 billion a year – about double what it was in 1998. Results show overall, obese people spent $1,429 (42 percent) more for medical care in 2006 than did those at a healthy weight. You can see a list of diseases linked to obesity here. Researchers say it’s going to take a community effort to reverse the obesity epidemic rather than an individual one.

What do you think? Is going to “take a village” to change things?
