This Is The Season For Depression. How, Do You Cope?

Winter always seems to bring about a dark cloud.
It hangs over my head from the time the first cool breeze blows.
I find it difficult ,to even want to go outdoors.
Often, I become a hermit at least until spring.
During this time, I usually write poetry.
My husband will sometimes drag me, kicking and screaming
out to the grocery store.I have suffered from this illness since, I was 22.
It is a long, hard, road to travel down.I should be used to it, by now,
but I'm not. Does anyone have any advice?Other than therapy,
I've been there but, it didn't help me.
I know others however,
that it has helped a great deal. Any, Ideas?

I would like to share a poem, I wrote on one of the dark days in my life.

Depression will not steal our dreams.

You, and I, are not so indifferent
for we have worn the same dark path.
Where some black cloud, thief, of sight,
stole into our youthful
minds.                                                                                                                                                                           Planting
Planting seeds, of fear and doubt,
that grew in groves, and pushed about
our joys and pride, till they moved out.

Often less, than more, the pain
we endure subsides as that black
cloud goes drifting by, uncovering
our eyes, revealing our dreams.

And while our vision is clear,
we chase them, one, by one,
until that same black cloud,
again covers up our sun.

I remember the first time I saw a clip on the news for Seasonal Affective Disorder, I was like holy cow, they have a name for what I thought was just me being strange. I don't get it much anymore. I still hibernate too to some degree. I think you can buy special lights that mimic the sun. Also, the the herb 5HTP helps some people with mild depression but maybe ask your doc first if it's right for you. At least you are using your time at home productively with writing poetry which is good, by the way. Maybe you could collect up your work and publish a book. Good Luck.
