Today's Meditation - Nervous? What NOT to do.

By Jane Powell - www.MeditationsForWomen.com

“Never apologize for being nervous.”

Whether it’s a job interview, a speech or auditioning for a part in a community play, nervous feelings are inevitable. They happen to everyone.

The difference is how each woman deals with her nervous feelings. First, you should accept them as part of public speaking and know you are not alone in your feelings. Second, don’t feel the need to apologize for being nervous. When you do, you only draw attention to it. Keep in mind that even if most of the time you see yourself as nervous, your audience doesn’t. And, they don’t need to know.

Instead, take a deep breath, stand tall and speak. You are a confident woman with something important to say – nervousness and all.

This is a great piece. I have found myself many times apologizing for being nervous especially when publicly speaking. I actually read that it's best to acknowledge your nervousness and then speak. Well, after doing so several times I'm of a mind that it does not help and really only makes you think about it more. It also makes you complacent with being that way. I feel that it's better to work through it instead of having the audience pity you or see you as "oh poor girl, she's so shy and nervous" I got that a lot until I started actively trying to conquer my anxiety of public speaking. Now, I just do it scared.
