Are you carrying too much weight while you're pregnant? New guidelines just came out for obese moms-to-be. FatFighterTV has a look at this story and other diet and fitness headlines making news this week.

New guidelines stress less weight gain for obese pregnant women

If you’re obese when you’re pregnant, you really have to watch that scale. New guidelines from the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council say obese moms-to-be should limit their weight gain during pregnancy to between 11 and 20 pounds, both for their health and for the health of their baby. That’s about half of what is recommended for normal-weight pregnant women, and shows the concern over the growing number of obese expectant mothers in the United States. It’s the first time the guidelines have been updated since 1990.

Burger King adds 3 new “Positive Steps” kids’ meals
As part of its BK Positive Steps program, Burger King has added three Kids Meals that are lower in calories, fat, and sodium.

The meals have:
  • No more than 560 total calories
  • Less than 30 percent of calories from fat
  • Less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fat
  • No more than 10 percent of calories from added sugars
  • No more than 600 milligrams of sodium

NFL players at risk of high blood pressure

The NFL may be filled with athletes, but a new study finds many of them have high blood pressure and the biggest linemen may be at risk of heart disease and diabetes. Researchers say 91 percent of the largest players have high blood pressure or pre-hypertension. And 78 percent of the smallest players have higher than normal blood pressure compared with 30 percent of men aged 24 to 35 in the general population.

    Hm... I am considered to be on the line of obese and overweight (though at a size 12 I sure as heck don't look like obese) But I have been wanting to be healthy when my husband and I start trying to have kids anyway.. so this will give me a decent goal and kick in the butt I need to get fit before I am pregnant... and a good guideline to maintain while I am pregnant.
