User Post: What if your OB/GYN was lesbian?

We all have a certain right to privacy. We choose what we wish to tell people about ourselves.

I know many people that would rather see a male doctor over a female doctor and vice versa. I have a friend that refuses to use a massage therapist that is female.

So my question to you is this. If you knew that you OB was a lesbian would that bother you? Would you be offended if you found out this information?

Or can you simply say this is no different from seeing a male doctor. Would you see it as a woman just doing her job?

Let me know what you think.

I have been going to the same Gyno for over 12 years. Her name is Dr. Judy. I have no idea if her or her staff is lesbian. I don't think I'd really care, but then again, I don't see how this personal information regarding her life is any of my business. Thinking about it now, one might be.

I have stayed with Dr. Judy over the last decade because she respects me. She is honest, caring and I had a really horrible experience with a male Ob/Gyn before.

All in all, I am happy with my doctor, so it wouldn't make a difference to me if she was a purple alien, as long as her bedside manner remained the same as it is now.

Okay..... thanks for letting me rant.

Well I prefer female OB's and female docs all around, but I may be a bit uncomfortable knowing she is. I may be better off not knowing also. The dont ask dont tell policy. I dont think they would even disclose that info.

I don't think that it would be a big deal because you can't necessarily know if your female or male doctor is gay or straight. However, being a lesbian, we have to go to the OB where most of the time the doctor will be straight. In those circumstances it is hard to get the health care that we need and the advice that we need. So, it would be good to know the sexuality of our doctors so that we can get the proper health care and support especially being a woman. So when looking at it from a professional perspective, I agree with the comment above, there is nothing sexy about getting a pap smear and as women we have the right to feel comfortable with the right doctor and get the best health care possible.

That is how we should all feel about our physicians. As long as they listen to us, take care of our needs, and make sure that we have all the info we need to make good and informed medical decisions. I would not mind if she were or were not lesbian.
