Wave Bench Is A Beauty and Eco Friendly Too.

I was delighted to attend the Architectural Digest Home Show in New York last week
- the event featured an abundance of fabulous American and international design from artisans and corporations alike.  I'll be featuring my fav's over the next few days, starting with this gorgeous piece from master craftsman David Stine

The Wave Bench is an organic / modern amalgamation in concept - the smooth lines remind of post-modern park benches while the grain and glow of the American Black Walnut from which it was made is vastly rustic.

Stine, who hand picks and harvests each piece of wood for his creations from his farm in Southern Illinois, has a beautiful collection of pre-designed benches , beds, and tables to offer and also makes custom pieces.  His work is highly sought after and can be found in homes around the country.

Stine was a founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council -- his own wood is sustainably harvested on his large farm from trees that are dead or dying and finished with VOC free, non toxic finishes.   Thanks to this, each piece is delightfully unique and imbued with historical zeitgeist.   Through this process he is a witness to the scatter-marks of the lifetime of his trees which are often hundreds of years old -- droughts, fires, bullet holes all show up forensically in the grains of the wood  like stories past down through generations.
