As a former binge eater, weekends are difficult. I usually
eat a bigger breakfast (around 10 or 11), have a snack or two until
dinner time to tide me over and eat a nice, usually larger dinner
and be done for the day. My weekend dinners are when I like to
experiment with a new recipe because I have more time and I can eat
more slowly because I don't have as many crazy errands to tend
to. Or weekend dinners include going out to eat (which is
another story in and of itself). That usually works for me.
However, every weekend, it never fails that I want to eat ALL day.
Especially in the winter when it is cold and snowy out. Sometimes
too, cloudy days do the same. Does anyone else feel like the
weather attributes to overeating? I feel this is always something
that will be hard for me. But I am catching on to a few tricks that
keep me sane and stop me from eating everything in the house. For
one, I had the novel idea to wear form fitting pants. Usually on
weekends, I am all about wearing my bum-around-the-house clothes.
However, I notice if my clothes are snug and no made of elastic,
and stretchy materials, my thoughts to over eat diminish. Also, I
try to stay busy because everyone knows boredom = eating because
that is the most sensible thing to do. What also helps is not
having crap and binge-worthy treats at the house. If there is not
tempation, it is a lot easier not to go overboard.
One last thing I try to do is really image how good and delicious
dinner will taste if I don't overeat all day. If I prepare a
beautiful salad with grilled fish for dinner, I damn well want to
be physically hungry for it when dinnertime rolls around. And also,
if I am meeting friends or family for dinner, I do not want to
disappoint them, myself, or my appetite by eating before, during
and after the dinner and feeling stuffed and bloated and sickly
full.
How about you guys, what are some of your suggestions?
