Embryonic stem cell lines (ES cell lines) are cultures of cells derived from the epiblast tissue of the inner cell mass (ICM) of a blastocyst or earlier morula stage embryos. A blastocyst is an early stage embryo. ES cells are pluripotent and give rise during development to all derivatives of the three primary germ layers : ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. In other words, they can develop into each of the more than 200 cell types of the adult body when given sufficient and necessary stimulation for a specific cell type.. As stem cells can now be grown and transformed into specialized cells with characteristics consistent with cells of various tissues such as muscles or nerves through cell culture , their use in medical therapies has been proposed. Human embryonic stem cell research is controversial because, with the present state of technology, starting a stem cell line requires the destruction of a human embryo . For more info go to;

Report AbuseWell Isis, It seems to me that everyone is willing to supersede God. It amazes me what man thinks HE can create. Here are a few, Test tub babies, A grandmother giving birth to her grandchildren. I could be here all day. If there is a way MAN will screw with it. I have a family member who was genetically created to have an IQ of 200 or more. And his IQ is off the charts. I guess you can do anything when you genetically alter DNA.
Good posting

Report AbuseThanks, I know I don't like it too much, I think we can go forward with the adult skin cell research and still get great results!

Report AbuseHey Isis! Interesting topic. *Smiles* Did you know that Rush found out some interesting information about stem cell research? It's just not necessary to use embryos anymore. Apparently stem cells can be found in the scrotum of a man. That's right! Let me say it again, in the scrotum of a man; it doesn't have to be found in a little unborn helpless baby anymore. It's sort of interesting to me that any lib would fight over this now. Thanks for the post. I really appreciate it. Hope you have a great day!

Report AbuseThanks Firstsheaf I did know about that, there are so many different types of stem cell research out there in other countries but the U.S. won't allow that proven research to be used here. The liberals will always fight over this just as much as the conservatives, it has been the same kind of fight over science for hundreds of years it unfortunately will never change...

Report AbuseWell I am for Stem Cell Research, I know it's the destruction of an embryo but at least it's early stage and not an actual fetus yet. We could use these things to cure diseases and stuff but we are so TIED to morals and "what's right" that it's gonna keep us in the dark ages FOREVER! suppose people shelved flight technology because the masses felt like "god never intended us to fly" and "if he did he would've given us wings" I think it's not man's desire to be GOD but rather a thirst for knowledge that makes us innovative in a way and if it exists, we maybe could find in mens scrotum''s good post Isis!!!!!!!

Totally Cool!!! Miraculous is the word this is why I am for it! scientific achievements like this one!
have a great day!!!

Report AbuseCafe... that is why I whole heartedly believe in using things such as storing your childs cord blood, and using your own bone marrow...There are many types of stem cells throughout the whole body we just need to know where to look! Thanks for your comments...:)

Report AbuseAs usual, Isis, excellent post. I had a friend that was given a temporary lease on life through stem cell surgery. He had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He did pass away eventually, but we all got a lot more time with him because of that surgery.
