Would this poster help you kick a soda habit?
user
Check
out the poster I spotted on my morning commute:
It's a hand pouring soda, which turns into globs of yellow fat
(complete with blood vessels!) as it nears the cup. The poster is
part of the New York City Health Department's campaign against
obesity, which targets sugary drinks. It's a little graphic for
my 8 a.m .subway ride, but it definitely gets the point across -
calories in your cup can add up too. In fact, women gulp 456
calories on average per day, according to research by Barry Popkin,
PhD, author of
The World is Fat (Avery). And, since your body
won't register liquid calories the same way it registers your
food intake, you may still be hungry after sipping a calorie
bomb.
What do you think about these posters?

Someone once told me that aspertame causes brain pimples, so I shouldn't drink diet sodas. But because I am an old tired teacher, I'll take the brain pimples with a good shot of caffeine. I figure if sodas don't kill me, teaching kids will. And when I was a smoker, I told my children, "I don't smoke for my health, but for yours." Sometimes we choose the lesser of two evils. Soda beats booze. And Xanax beats throwing things. Those are my healthy tips for today. :)

I don't think it will really do anything for adults, maybe a kid or two will get an impression. I find that this kind of shock ad, just makes people more stubborn and less willing to compromise their habits. My ex-husband's little cousin once asked why adults smoke. I told her because you get a little stupid and lot stubborn as you grow up.

I kicked the soda habit when I learned what it does to your body and I take great pride in my body. As we get older, we start to recognize how important it is to take care of this precious God given gift of ours.
So, I suggest educating yourself on the horrible effects soda has on your health and then you want need a poster to kick the habit. And, how about some good water?

Um, I think it's a start to helping people have some awareness about calories in drinks. Some people are very visual. It's a start.

Has anyone ever seen the packaging of Canadian cigarettes? Graphically colored photos of diseased lungs and other physical results of smoking. The soda poster is nothing compared to those...and folks keep smoking...so no, I doubt if it will significantly impact soft drink sales.

I drank diet soda for almost all of my life, with aspartame. Since the age of 30, I have had vertigo so bad, I could not stand at the top of the stairs without weaving. I drink the regular soda (only mixed with drinks), and I quit using aspartame in coffee. I use only sugar, and it's just amazing how I handle the stairs now. You may laugh, but the vertigo has all but disappeared.
