Would you eat an apple right now?

That is just one of the phrases that I'm hoping will help me in my quest to get back into healthful eating mode.  You are supposed to ask yourself that question whenever you are trying to figure out whether you really are hungry or are just eating for some other (emotional) reason.  For some reason, this question really struck a chord with me.  It makes me actually think about the reason why I'm going to eat and what I should eat.

Another question that I am using as an empowering phrase is "You can have MORE tomorrow!"  I am guilty of greedily gobbling down whatever food I am enjoying at the time as if there was no tomorrow, as if I would never get to taste whatever it is ever again.  This is silly.  I am blessed to have a well-stocked pantry and refrigerator and I can always have more later, I don't have to shovel down massive portions at one sitting.

Some other steps I am taking are keeping a food journal including the times and the state of my appetite after the meal (full, comfortably full, overstuffed!), no longer keeping "trigger" foods (like candy and chip) in my home, and making the decision to no longer bake whenever I feel like it.  Believe it or not, as a stay-at-home mom, I actually found myself baking from scratch batches of cookies, twice a week sometimes!  And I would eat most of them myself.  I have decided to only bake on the weekend, if I really want to.  I really should only bake on special occasions because, really,  cookies are one of my overeating triggers ---I can't eat just one or even two, I have to eat six or more!

So these are a few of the resolutions I've made to be healthier and fitter for the new year.  Wish me luck!
