Would you give up sugar for a month -- even if Jenny McCarthy asked you to?

One of the reasons I like Jenny McCarthy is that, when it comes to her body, she really puts it out there. Sometimes that means putting it really out on the pages of a magazine (hello) and sometimes it means talking frankly about how much weight she gained during her pregnancy and how tough it was to lose. I loved her for being candid on a talk show about how her boobs went south after breastfeeding, making her far more comfortable wearing a bra than being naked in intimate situations. I don't always agree with her stance but I do always appreciate that she speaks out about how she's living her life, especially in the highly photographed body she's living in.

For this reason, I am very interested in her campaign to give up sugar for 30 days and to recruit other people to join her in giving up something unhealthy for a month. She's blogging it all on Oprah.com and invites anyone to join her in a make-your-own-rules effort to cheer each other on and also "come together every day to b---- and moan about how well or horrible we are doing."

Her paragraph-long posts about everything from cupcakes to the trouble with sugar-free chocolate when you have PMS are not a deep-dive into detoxing. Instead, they are more like an email from a girlfriend. Or some conversation over cocktail unsweetened iced tea. But they have hundreds of comments and it looks like many, many people are jumping on Jenny's campaign to feel better by the time summer arrives.

For the record, I gave up sugar (and animal products and caffeine and alcohol and sex and...more stuff that I get crabby just listing here) as a part of a five-week detox that was extremely challenging and also really good for my spirit. I'm not sure I am up for any part of that at the moment, but I think it's great Jenny's rallying people to get a little healthier and stay honest at the same time. Who knows? Maybe she will inspire me to make the leap from half-caf to decaffeinated coffee.

What about you? Would you give up sugar -- or caffeine or smoking or chips -- even if Jenny McCarthy asked you to for one month?

Keep on keeping on:

ummm....if she paid me an awful lot to do it, I would. My organic chai has sugar in it and I can not function without it. At all.. ever. If it was "bad" processed sugar type foods, then maybe. I try hard, but the oreos just scream to me it the store.

If I'm going to do anything it's NOT because a famous person told me to or "rallied" everyone to jump on the band wagon. I'm sick and tired that everytime a celebrity turns around they get book deals, talk shows, free meals, paid big bucks to endorse a product that takes 10 min of their time, etc. when everyone else in the world has to work their asses off to "possibly" get a bite. Enough on that bit though....anyhow, there's nothing wrong with what she's doing, but to do it because she is, please....I think a better idea is instead of giving something up for 30 days (what's the point really?) is how about making a lifetime commitment to a healthier you and however one wants to start to go about doing that is good.

I think it is a great idea. It sort follows the South Beach Diet's cutting out sugar, refined flour and more. I know it would be awesome not to crave sugar all the time.

No, not if someone told me to (unless it was my doctor that is)... I am just that way. I have to want to do it for me and not for someone else.. unless that someone else is a part of my reasons (ie, for my husband or children).. I have already been trying to get myself off of caffeine and simple sugars anyway, before I heard about her "campaign"...

I really don't eat sugar now. With the exception of a little honey in my tea every now and then, that's it. But, I would give it up just to prove I can.

? Being an actress has nothing to do with her being a great person, mother, autism cure activist and health coach. She knows what she is talking about.

Sugar is destroying this country. This is sickening:

I should do it along with her, but only because its a good idea for me to do so (diabetes runs in my family)

I dont and never have eaten sugar. Just never liked it, but if

you give it up(and its a good thing to do)you have to do it

because you really want to, not because someone asks you too

Jenny McCarthy, in my opinion has done more disservice to parents of autistic and learning diasbled children than anyone else I can think of. I am the parent of an autistic child and I will never buy a book that woman has written nor will I ever watch a TV program or movie that she's appearing in. So obviously, I will not be giving up sugar because some lousy actress tells me it's bad for me. First, she's cured autism and now she's giving out dieting advice. Is there anything this bimbo doesn't think she's an expert on? As far as I'm concerned she can go to Hell.
